I got hired in 2009 on this kind of scheme, the accountancy firm that hired me were awful people. They needed to replace a retired administrator on the cheap, they bullied me for months for my disability until I quit and ended up on a psych ward.

There was a similar scheme in Wales for hiring young people. Dodgy af small businesses (many of them unsustainable vanity projects) employed and exploited young people *just* for those 6 months, often then folding so even the reference is worthless. The politicians *know* this doesnt work.

“Should we do anything to help solve structural inequality & ensure workplaces are actually accessible to disabled people?” “Nah, let’s just bribe employers to hire them for a bit.”

Cannot explain how much I hate the Labour policy suggestion of the government paying disabled employees wages for 6 months to encourage employers to hire out-of-work benefit claimants. Essentially admitted businesses will only hire disabled people if they’re free, & making the taxpayer responsible.

Really struggling on today’s Minute Cryptic. Thought the definition was “back to back losses in swimming races”, but there’s not enough letters for the answer to be Riley Gaines.

I suppose the good news is that, very soon, the TV industry is going to have to take a chance on some up-and-coming talent, if only to have new people to send on a televised holiday a few years down the line.

Bridget Phillipson is obviously correct to say violence against women has been weaponised for political purposes by Nigel Farage and Kemi Badenoch. Anyway, here’s Bridget Phillipson weaponising violence against women to justify her bigotry against trans people for political purposes.

I posted this in a Reddit discussion about welfare spending, and I’m sharing it here because, frankly, I feel like this is a reality that not enough non-disabled people seem to understand.
Here’s the thing - there’s this constant insistence surrounding the long term sick and getting them back to work. Yet, there’s never actually any acknowledgment to the reality of this, that long term sickness can affect your ability to do work, and, as a result, affects the willingness of employers to hire you. Sure, there’s anti-discrimination legislation to protect disabled people, but, the reality is, employers “hiring the best people for the job” can mean that many disabled people are shut out regardless.

It’s so fascinating hearing right-wingers cry about “compelled speech” when they’re just asked to show trans people basic fucking respect, such as using correct name and pronouns, whilst having absolutely zero issue with genuine government issued compelled speech.

I mean, the government did recently accept a new EHRC Code of Practice, rewriting the Equality Act solely to legitimise “gender critical” anti-trans hate speech, so it’s kind of hard to disagree here, really.
Independent: Majority of Britons say government only protects free speech it agrees with
A survey commissioned by the human rights organisation Liberty and conducted by pollsters More in Common found 54 per cent of Britons believe the government only protects speech that it agrees with

Genuinely don’t think it’s been discussed enough just how detrimental to workers generally it could be if Sandie Peggie is successful against the RCN - it crushes minority rights by enforcing unions to stand by and support bigots. It’s really fucking dystopian.

I find the insistence that racist and anti-trans nurse Sandie Peggie was owed any support by the Royal College of Nursing fascinating. It’s an insistence that this cis white woman and her bigoted views take complete precedence over any of the RCN’s staff from minority groups. It’s so wrong.
Daily Express: Two nurses have accused the Royal College of Nursing of abandoning them when they needed help the most, claiming the union failed to support female members in disputes over single-sex spaces and pronoun usage.
Jennifer Melle and Bethany Hutchison appeared as witnesses in colleague Sandie Peggie's employment tribunal case in Dundee against the RCN, the world's largest nursing union. Mrs Peggie claims she was discriminated against because of her gender-critical beliefs after the union refused her legal support during an NHS disciplinary dispute.

I cannot stress this enough - the belief that trans women should be banned from women’s shelters is inherently bigoted because, to be frank, the only trans women entering shelters are victims of assault or abuse. Banning them from shelters is framing those victims as abusers. It’s utterly sick.

I do have to question how @bphillipsonmp.bsky.social can claim she believes trans people should be treated with “dignity and respect”, seconds before saying she would ban trans women victims experiencing rape or abuse from shelters. It’s just so fucking blatantly dishonest and bigoted.

It is genuinely fascinating to me, the level that people have dehumanised trans people so much, that the only solution they see to any perceived conflict of rights is one of trans exclusion.
marsman on Reddit, responding to my last comment in the quoted post: I think you run the risk of simplifying here, the issue isn't bigotry its trauma, for all involved. I can understand why survivors of abuse might be wary, I can understand why trans women would find that excluding and hurtful, and trauma is irrational, maybe we should be looking for solutions that don't create more trauma.
Me, in response: Excluding trans women from support and safety after being raped or abused will cause a much greater level of real trauma than an anti-trans bigot demanding a space free from trans people will actually experience in the presence of a trans person. I'm sorry, I'm not going to bullshit here, to be frank, their irrational bigotry towards trans people should never take precedence over the real trauma being experienced by a trans victim.

Turns out this is now just making me have to spend time confronting people with their own inhumanity.
FornyHucker22 on Reddit: always going to be a tricky topic whatever people feel about it.
Me in reply: I actually think it's a very easy topic - stop being cunts to trans people seems like a very simple solution - but, unfortunately, this country seems desperate to make things needlessly tricky by catering to the whims of bigots instead.
evenifihateit replying to me: Women who are fleeing male violence are being cunts to trans people if they don't want to share women's refuges with males who identify as women?
Me in response: I mean, yeah, denying a trans woman who has been raped or abused safety, security and support in a shelter because of your own anti-trans bigotry is quite a cunty thing to do, yes.

The Bible literally says that a woman can be created from a man’s rib, Janet.
Telegraph and Mail journalist Janet Murray on Facebook: Apparently the Church of England has ordained its first 'transgender woman' - following a 'gender transition'.
Now, I'm no biblical scholar. But I did go to a faith school, study compulsory RE until I was 16, and get an 'A' in Religious Studies (back when that was the top grade). So I'm scratching my head here.
Genesis says God created humankind "male and female". Where does the Bible say that men can become women? Sarah Jones is a man, not a woman.

I once had an interview where they told me to get my lunch whilst waiting due to them running behind schedule. They then interrupted me mid-lunch to say they were ready. I continued eating after the interview, whilst they checked my right to work documents. They deemed this unprofessional. I failed.
