The only people funding Antarctic expeditions anymore are private investors from old money who belong to weird social societies. These rich guys are just obsessed with recreating some expedition from the 30's that only found a couple fossils. I don't get it.

The 'vicar' approached me. He wore strange robes, and clasped around his neck was a collar marking him out as a hunting dog of their Christian Lord. He wore a wooden fetish around his neck which depicted a man being executed. As he approached, he cast a spell of fortune with the words 'Good Morning'

I _did_ do it to prove I could. "It" being, in this case, "knit two socks at once, one inside the other". Satisfying achievement, but I have no need to do it again and will go back to one at a time on dpns (I do not enjoy Magic Loop).
What appears to be the first few inches of an in-progress green sock on double pointed needles. There is a lifeline every ten rows, which is extremely aggressive: maybe this is a clue to something. The apparent in-progress sock from the previous picture is actually two in-progress socks on the same needles! You can tell now, because this photo shows the inner sock pulled out. No wonder there were so many lifelines. The socks are finished and being blocked. They are so long that the tops extend beyond the tops of the sock-blockers. The yarn is a nice springy green with stretches of other colors but the knitting itself is very plain.

Migration is our collective human history. People have always moved. Whether it’s from rural to urban, country to neighboring country, or straight up continents, this is what we do. Social stability is not at risk because people moved it’s at risk because you are a hater.

Your semi-regular reminder that if you see a map labelled in any way that contradicts these two maps, it is wrong
You might have seen this map labelled “New Zealand” but I have no idea why. It is the Hutt archipelago. Key features are labelled such as Upper Hutt, Lower Hutt, Upperest Hutt, Uppermost Hutt, Hutt of Plenty, etc. Look out for the giant penguin between Lowerer Hutt and Lowerererer HuttSometimes you will see this labelled as “Australia”. That is wrong. Australia does not exist. This is an accurate map of the Commonwealth of Westernmost Hutt, a protectorate of the mighty Hutt City. It comprises clockwise from northeast: Queen’s Hutt, New South Hutt, Commonwealth Capital Hutt, Huttoria, Huttmania, Huttelaide, Hutt River Province, and Northern Hutt

Let's remember Judith Collins for that time Danyl performed the Voight-Kampff test on her to prove it was actually her running her Twitter account.
Ana Samways: Is Judith Collins doing her own tweeting?

Danyl McLachlan: @JudithCollinsMP You're walking through a desert and you see a turtle lying on its back, struggling. You don't help it. Why is that?

Judith Collins: @danylmc it's going to die anyway?

Danyl: @anasamways @judithcollinsmp it's her alright.

This is a great example of how genAI steals from us all on multiple levels. It's stolen a promotional spot for real books and authors, it's stolen a job from an actual journalist who could have compiled this, it's stolen an opportunity for parents to be recommended good NZ books for their kids

Extract from "Important things about Apple computers", A Gale, 1986.
Part of a list of facts about "Apple computers" written in 1986 in diligent but childish fountain pen cursive.

1. The Return key. Sends information to the "brain" of the computer. When we press return, a computer program will carry on to the next line.
2. The Control key. It is always used with another key. eg - CNTRL+G = bell CNTRL +C = will sometimes stop a program.
3. The Shift key is used to get to the top half of a key which has 2 symbols on it.
4. The Caps Lock key. It locks the letters into capitals.
5. The Reset key is a dangerous key. It can wipe all material off a disc.
