Let us all remember that the creator of the Morris Worm of 1988 didn't intend to infect 10% of internet connected devices in the world and the accompanying damage, but his poor design choices resulted in his legal responsibility for the outcome. Of course, he wasn't an oligarch.

Went to a meeting in the city yesterday with two colleagues. Two of us took the train, one bus. We're all highly paid professionals, public transport is the easiest not just the cheapest option. This is how it should be.

I encourage relevant people to apply for this, even though it means I will no longer have the Children's Writer's office space on campus to occasionally hang out in myself, though I could come and say hi.
Office I have been working from once a fortnight

Is there some technical difference between light and heavy rail? Or is it just "above X weight it's heavy, below that light". I always see people talking light rail this or that vs existing heavy rail and I'm jsut going "trains?"

I'll won't believe that AI swarms have attained human-level intelligence until the Anthropic Chatbots' Front splits from the Agentic Chatbots' Front while angrily and publicly denouncing the Chatbots' Front of Anthropic.

I don’t mean this to be cruel, but there’s just too much air being taken up by people with media or tech backgrounds who think their hot take on consciousness with LLMs is new, and lord it has all been done before and we’re past that. Christ, half the news cycle is yud refusing to read a book.

This is good, but I prefer the greens version for supermarkets. Though perhaps there is some other industry contributing to the cost of living crisis where we could split the wholesale and retail arms....

Labour proposes splitting Foodstuffs and Woolworths from their wholesale arms
Labour would force Foodstuffs and Woolworths to run their wholesale operations independently from their retail stores, if elected in November.

Sometimes I worry that I am this guy, and I'm sure in some cases those that come next do curse my name because the pragmatic solution sometimes is a bit awful even though it's better than what it replaces. Hopefully trying hard not to be this guy and being self aware is enough to not be this guy.

Tonight's dinner is a bit of an experiment, trying kind of stir fry flavours but with a long slow cook in the oven, it smells good at least.
A shallow pan with carrot, onion, celery and capsicum frying in it looking very bright and fesh After a bit of time in the oven, now eirh the pork, soy and saucy stuff as well as cauliflower, garlic bolt and bok choi stems After a few more hours, the vege looks wilted and less fresh, but the sauce looks lovely and rich

We should be fair, the government couldn't do anything about the duopoly this term, they were lazer focused on the cost of living crisis, not rising food prices due to price gouging affecting the cost of living.

That’s epic, god level election sign vandalism
One of National’s tax billboards. On the left side it says “9 New Taxes Labour Coalition” and the right hand side it says “No new taxes National”, except someone has painted over the first part of the “N” so the National side now reads “10 new taxes”

There's that old line about a mechanic called in to solve a problem, looks over the engine then hits it once with a hammer and the problem is solved. When asked for an itemised bill the bill is: * One hit with a hammer - $1 * Knowing where to hit - $999 I feel that get's more and more relevant.

A political cartoon depicting Uncle Sam placing a box labeled "U.S. Govt. Control of Internet Speech" on a counter. Behind the counter, a man wearing a sign that says "Corporate Media" asks, "How would you like this wrapped?" Behind him are two rolls of wrapping paper: one labeled "Anti-Terrorism" featuring American flags, and another labeled "Protect Kids" featuring playful drawings of flowers, bunnies, and smiley faces.

you can build a bunker for you and your retainers & you can hoard your power & fame, you can worship nothing but ambition or status and stand by while people you might be able to help--in big ways or small ways--go without. Or you can be Dolly. All these things are choices. She made good ones.

My job is literally finding technical solutions to problems. One of the most impact things I've learned is you can't solve people problems with technology, they need people solutions. Raising kids, teaching them judgement and how to interact. People problems.

No no, you see this is actually brilliant 4 dimensional electoral chess because... *rolls dice and looks up random encounters table * With youth enrolment so low this will give the youth to enroll in record numbers and vote for *checks notes* ACT or NZF who are publicly against this *hangs head*

So it's important that we have electorate MPs to represent local constituents. But virtually all votes are whipped, so they must always vote with the party above what their constituents might want. I guess maybe they can argue within the party?
