The image shows the painting Escaping Criticism (Fugint de la crítica in Catalan) by the Spanish artist Pere Borrell del Caso. The oil on canvas painting was created in 1874 and is a famous example of trompe-l'œil (French for "deceive the eye").

The central subject is a boy who appears to be actively climbing out of the physical frame of the painting, with one leg lifted over the bottom edge and his hands grasping the inner sides of the frame. His expression is one of surprise or perhaps urgency as he looks back over his shoulder.

The technique uses forced perspective and realistic details to create the optical illusion that the boy is climbing out of the two-dimensional frame into the real world.
The painting is thought to be a reaction to the conservative art critics of the time who favored Romanticism over Borrell's chosen style of Realism.
The original artwork is part of the collection of the Banco de España in Madrid, Spain
