We're using A LOT of recycled wood, by the way. We got two whole pieces for absolute free (not even paying for labor either), and we still need to make the rest of the furniture (we can't make everything from recycled material), and transport it all after it's done.

I think the Nolan Batman films did permanent damage to the perception of Bruce Wayne, as well as irl billionaires. Comics-wise, a truly ridiculous amount of Wayne Enterprise revenue actually goes into Gotham. Without that, Gotham basically doesn't a support system at all.
