"Gods are not dependent on their worshipers; worshipers are dependent on their Gods. And the New Gods? We're as old as time, constantly remade, constantly reborn with each turning of the wheel... Each time a mortal turns on a computer, puts a piece of bread in the toaster, opens a door, strikes a match, or wonders at the stars, he worships at the altar of the New Gods!"

LOKI: Come join my companywide mega crossover event! APOCALYPSE: No, that's dumb! You're dumb!
APOCALYPSE: Others?

LOKI: The X-Men! Cyclops, leader of X-Factor and the young New Mutants who will soon to Midgard from... Elsewhere! They too have ofttimes annoyed me and mine. Defeat them... destroy them... and in doing so thou wilst prove thyself worthy to join me.

A: Your so-called Acts of Vengeance is already a failure.

L: No! I have caused the Avengers anguish. They have felt pain/ I would have destroyed them had not my servants, my so-called master villains continued to pursue their own petty interests in place of mine and have thus been humiliated.

A: No wonder the humans have ceased to worship you, Loki! How little you understand the human heart! Humans are not immortal and have little enough time to accomplish their own goals. Humans are not the weaklings you take them for. Each, be he hero or villain, is dying from the day he is born. Each breath... each effort... is an act of courage against inevitable doom... such courage we immortals only dream of.

If you're not sure that what an LLM does is qualitatively different from actual human thought, then you don't actually understand how either work.
This is a very strong objection which I need to think about, but I guess it comes down to whether you think machine learning is completely qualitatively different from what a human mind does or not. And I’m not sure.

Left is "fire DeMayo"

Right is "keep DeMayo"

Both lead to season 2 of X-Men '97 being a mess.

Great Scott, man! You only had nine fucking eps!
ComicBook Clique

❌️Beau DeMayo has revealed more details about his original plans for Season 2 of X-Men ’97, claiming the story was later reworked because it was considered too complicated.

According to DeMayo, his original opening would have followed three interconnected timelines across the first three episodes:

• The origins of Apocalypse and his obsession with Ship
• A present-day world where the X-Men never existed
• A future where Cable is ordered by the Askani to kill Apocalypse, despite Scott and Jean trying to stop him

DeMayo also says his version would have continued the story's setup surrounding the Phoenix, with the reveal that its emergence in Episode 10 was not accidental.

His larger Season 2 arc would have seen Professor Xavier increasingly militarize the X-Men, eventually revealing that Onslaught had been manipulating Xavier and influencing his decisions.

The season finale would have revealed Onslaught's control, with the X-Men realizing what had happened and returning to their classic '90s costumes as they joined forces with the Avengers, X-Factor and X-Force.

DeMayo claims the finale would have culminated with Onslaught stealing Ship from Apocalypse and unleashing it on Washington, D.C. during Graydon Creed's inauguration.

He also alleges that his disagreements with members of the production over comic-accurate terminology and ideas contributed to the “difficult to work with” reputation he says followed him.

It's an ambitious version of Season 2, and if DeMayo's account is accurate, it sounds like the original plan was heading toward a very different and much larger storyline.

Which version of Season 2 would you rather have seen?

Now that X-Men '97 is behind us, never forget that Louise Simonson, original creator of Apocalypse, established them as genderfluid as far back as 1987.
“As long as man has existed, I, Apocalypse, have stalked among them. I have had other names but wherever there was cruelty and death, there was my face worshipped. There were men tested. There civilizations flourished and then fell!

In ancient Egypt, they called me Set… god of death, of storms and famine… brother-slayer… himself undying. In Persia, I was Sauru, prince of demons, lord of anarchy and tyranny. The Aztecs called me Huitzilopochtli… god of war and bloody sacrifice. In India, I was four-armed Kali-Ma, the Black Mother, sword-wielding, draped in snakes, girdles in skulls. Always I brought growth, judgement, destruction. As it was before, so will it be again.”

I mean, there's a big philosophical distinction between "God" as the Infinite Transcendent Source of All Being and "gods" as a particular class of beings inhabiting and overseeing certain aspects of the natural world. 1/3
OP: Can I ask a question? How come, in a universe where Thor and Hercules are public and well-established heroes but Jesus remains entirely absent, there aren't more pagan converts? I mean, I think Rick&Morty had it right with the giant heads. If people knew which gods were real, they'd worship those.
