Memento (spooky) Morty 🌙 @mementomorty.bsky.social · 09/09/2025Did you all change back to your maiden name after your divorce 54824
Christmas T-rex @killingicons.bsky.social · 09/09/2025My ex is keeping my name, mostly because of the kids, but also car, house, license, etc. would all have to change. The time, effort, cost, and risk of forgetting one is just too much. 000
Druv Bhagavan @druvbhagavan.bsky.social · 09/09/2025The only thing I've been divorced from is reality, so my opinion matters very little here. That said, I think you should do whatever makes you feel happy and at peace. You'll have my support no matter what you choose. ❤️🫂 040
Mel Starkicker @starkicker.bsky.social · 09/09/2025I didn't change my name because it would mean paper work in two countries, and that is an expensive pain in the ass. So I hear you on the paperwork point. But neither my mom, aunts, nor mother in law changed their names post-divorce. 000
Dude,Mom @rdeiningeraddison.bsky.social · 09/09/2025I have a friend who asked if she had to go back to her birth name, and they told her any name was good, so she is now a Knopfler. It's a great last name 070
Dude,Mom @rdeiningeraddison.bsky.social · 09/09/2025I didn't because my maiden name is harder to spell, and it was just easier to have the same name as my kids. I might go back to my maiden name now, though it seems like a pain in the ass to do it. 020
Three👁️Eyed👁️Devil👁️ @anarcish.bsky.social · 09/09/2025My mom changed her name back, and my partner’s grandma picked a whole new last name for herself and is really proud of it. 020
Alfred Squeaks n Sneaks Pennyworth @squeakysneaks.bsky.social · 09/09/2025Kept the married. was & remains "cooler"? I thought would be easier to pronounce than maiden but ppl not only butcher it (Woof😒 for Wolf) then give me E's & extra F's n junk. the cost of this man is 4ever. I've had the last name longer now than my maiden. It's mine now.media.tenor.coma black cat with green eyes is holding a nail fileALT: a black cat with green eyes is holding a nail file 080
Lisa @lgtaylor.bsky.social · 09/09/2025I did not. Partly because my maiden name is a nightmare to spell/pronounce, partly because a big chunk of my professional life was conducted with my married name, and partly because we have a daughter. 170
Katie (she/they) @imagine0enigami.bsky.social · 09/09/2025Okay so I cannot speak for myself personally. But one of my friends kept her married name (until she married husband number 2) so it stayed matching her kid. That said most of my other friends that have split the sheets revert, at least socially. 040
Rackletang 🧌🦇🕷️ @rackletang.bsky.social · 09/09/2025You're the one who has to hear and see it all the time, think about what makes you feel right and move accordingly! Shit, a friend of mine changed her name after marriage, and changed it back less than a year later because she didn't like how it sounded. 070
Dallas Holladay, DO (she/her) @dholladay.bsky.social · 09/09/2025I think my mom just started using her maiden name without changing it legally. 140
kblitzy (カラブリッツ) 💊🇵🇭 @kblitzy.bsky.social · 09/09/2025do what you can live with. i didn’t get married to my ex, but i also made sure our son had MY last name. if i’m financially supporting him 💯, damn straight he’s got my name. sometimes, it makes life easier when you have the same name as your kid… but if you don’t want people assuming you and/ 160
Le*e @lharp.bsky.social · 09/09/2025I know someone who changed her name to first name first name after her divorce which I find empowering. 060
Xtine Irandokht Milrod, PhD @xtinemilrod.bsky.social · 09/09/2025No, but my maiden name was a Scandinavian something between Dar Hen Hall and Drunken Whore 🙃 030
Joshua J. Friedman @joshuajfriedman.com · 09/09/2025You're going to have to start spelling "Lasagna" over the phone again 1210
Debbie Fearon (she/her) @debbiefearon.medsky.social · 09/09/2025Never changed it in the first place. Fuck that. 🤣 020
Nocturnal Holly @nocturnalholly.bsky.social · 09/09/2025My mom changed her last name to her middle name, then chose a new middle name. She had been married longer than not, and her maiden name had a complicated history, so she just ditched them both. She has now had her chosen name the longest, it worked out! 110
Andrew Spooky Bones @apbohn.bsky.social · 09/09/2025When my wife got divorced she didn't change it, because she wanted to have the same name as her kids. When we were getting married, she asked me what I thought and I said she can do what she wanted, but my preference would be that she had the name of a man who loved her, either her dad's* or mine 120
kit spooks 👻 @kitsparks.bsky.social · 09/09/2025I have never divorced but having the name you want to have is worth any and all hassle you may encounter, whatever kind it may be my mom went back to her maiden name after divorcing my dad, and HER mom kept her second husband’s surname even after marrying and divorcing her third 140
ithacagreg.bsky.social @ithacagreg.bsky.social · 09/09/2025My mom, born in the thirties, changed her name to my dad’s. She divorced and after a time remarried, changing her name to the new man (a truly great guy and love of her life) - but away from MINE! When I asked her about this, she gave me a look and questioned, “And keep your Dad’s name?” I got it. 000
Lotta @gemmy.bsky.social · 09/09/2025I had a hyphenated last name as married, to keep record of previous publications. Went back to maiden name only after divorce. Glad I was never only a his last name, as the continuity is good. Happy to be back to my old name. It was just a really long last name for a bit... 000

Forrest Plump @nahyoudoit.bsky.social · 09/09/2025I kinda want to change mine entirely. Might even go with my mom’s maiden name and not my birth name. 010
arbitrary commentary @arbitraryalison.bsky.social · 09/09/2025My mum kept her's because she wanted to have the same name as us kids. Also she said no matter what you have some man's name so what does it matter? 010
Amanda @eruditeelf.bsky.social · 09/09/20251st divorce, yes. 2nd divorce, no. I didn't want the headache of changing all of my nursing licenses. 010
🦇 tigs 🦉🌙 @syzara.bsky.social · 09/09/2025my mom did and would never have kept it in a million years, and so did her sister i think it depends a lot on you feel about it tbh 120
Brian DeViteri @bsbeamer.bsky.social · 09/09/2025My mom didn’t, despite a lot of insisting from her family and friends. She did change it when she remarried several years later. 020
Cheryl Fuller @drcheryl.bsky.social · 09/09/2025Yes, though I can’t say I was a whole lot happier returning to my old name because it came from my father. 030
/pɔːl/ @itsmybits.bsky.social · 09/09/2025I was always surprised my mum didn’t change hers back. I vaguely remember her mentioning the paperwork, etc., as a/the reason. 010
Mindy Bee @mindybee.bsky.social · 09/09/2025Nope, just rolled with it. I'm on my third last name now 😂 020
PaprikaPink @paprikapink.bsky.social · 09/09/2025I wanted my ex's last name before I even thought of marrying him. 1. I met him thru one of his relatives I was really close to & I liked her name. 2. It means beloved. When we split I had those reasons + 2 kids with that name. And I have a PATHOLOGICAL dread of interwoven paperwork nightmares 010
Patti T. @ptuller.bsky.social · 09/09/2025No... I had a child with an identity...and signing school papers with a different name back then was...burdensome! I also had my career established in my name, and. Our divorce was ( mostly) amicable...so I didn't have a driving need to rid myself of my name. Everyone's situation is different!! 010
Liz @lizsays.bsky.social · 09/09/2025As far as I know, I’m not getting divorced any time soon, but I would drop my married name in a heartbeat if we did separate. 020
Stephanie @msbutterfly03.bsky.social · 09/09/2025I'm not divorced, but I'd absolutely change my name back to my maiden name if I ended up divorced. I like my maiden name, and it would make it feel more of a "clean break." 030
Eric Parsons @ericparsons.bsky.social · 09/09/2025My mother-in-law didn’t change back. I assume mostly because it’s a huge pain in the ass. And that’s the name her kids have 000
RedPlaidGoose 🇨🇦 @redplaidgoose.bsky.social · 09/09/2025I did not; at first, because I was a soldier at the time so the amount of paperwork would have been even more nightmarish than as a civilian. Nevertheless, during the proceedings he tried to demand that I do just that, so naturally I said fuck you and didn't. Also, it was easier to spell. 020
Memento (spooky) Morty 🌙 @mementomorty.bsky.social · 09/09/2025Pros: I like my old name. It's shorter, easier to spell, and say Cons: More paperwork. I am so sick of paperwork. 11800
Kristyn J @sciencekristyn.bsky.social · 09/09/2025One of my best friends changed it back, and when she did she said she finally felt completely free. Worth the paperwork and hassle in her opinion. 0150
‘The Work of Democracy is The Work of Our Time’ @mdrfl.bsky.social · 09/09/2025Yes, after the first one. (Made the second one much easier! 🤣) 000
Typing Gloves @typinggloves.bsky.social · 09/09/2025My mom kept her married name in the divorce until she remarried and got something easier to spell 010
Amanda Phipps @gracie16oz.bsky.social · 09/09/2025I did the first time, second time I was too lazy but wish I had. 010
Insatiably Spooky @theinsaticritic.bsky.social · 09/09/2025I would say go with what works for you. I am a writer with a byline and I never changed my name for that reason (still married) and I am always surprised by how that really throws ppl. Maybe write your name down both ways and see what looks right? 020
