Annual adverse event summaries were once published annually, but were quietly discontinued in 2021. When The Post requested serious event summaries in May 2024, Health NZ refused to provide them. The Ombudsman found that was unreasonable.

I once had a young kid with septicaemia ask her mother to tell the (nonexistent) people in the corner of her hospital room to go away because “she wasn’t ready to go with them yet”. She later arrested but was successfully resuscitated because I’d had her transferred to a PICU bc I was freaked out.
