A map in the style of Tolkein titled 'The Map of Manuscript Earth'. This is something I'm calling 'artography' - and it lists lots of geographic locations on the way to submitting a (scientific) manuscript.

Check out our latest issue with thought-provoking Editorial & Perspective articles & cutting-edge Research, Resources & Methods papers! On the cover we have a scanning electron microscopy image of zebrafish larva 🐟️ 📗 journals.biologists.com/dmm/issue/19/2
Zebrafish larva imaged with scanning electron microscopy at 4 days post-fertilisation following exposure to 10 µM elafibranor. Affected surface periderm cells are dysmorphic, with reduced surface area due to increased apical constriction. These results provide new insights linking compromised skin barrier integrity to alterations in midface morphogenesis. See article by Molteni et al. (dmm052649). #KnowYourZDM: In 2019, a 10-year-old patient w/ a life-threatening lymphatic disorder was losing hope. Zebrafish to the rescue! Scientists created zebrafish with the same gene mutation and found a melanoma drug that fixed the fish. Then, doctors used the same drug on the patient to save his life! 🧪
Zebrafish are an excellent model for studying the development and function of blood and lymphatic vessels. Research in zebrafish has even led to treatments for lymphatic disorders in people. This image, taken using a powerful microscope that uses lasers to illuminate the fish, shows blood vessels (magenta) and lymphatic vessels (green) in the eye and head of an anesthetized, 6-week-old, transgenic zebrafish.

Micrscopy images of cleared cerebral brain tissue showing penetrating blood vessels (white) in mice - magenta cells are perivascular fibroblasts and cyan cells are perivascular macrophages - in control mice, both cell types are near the vessel termini by postnatal day 10 but in 'cKO' mice that lack expression of a tyrosine kinase receptor PDGFRa in fibroblasts, both the fibroblasts and macrophages are only partially covering the vessels. #KnowYourZDM: Humans and #zebrafish carrying mutations in VEGFC or its receptor (FLT4) have defects in the formation of their lymphatic systems, which are important for draining lymph back into the circulation system.  As a result, these individuals display severe #lymphedema. 🧪
Humans bearing mutations in vascular endothelial growth factor C (VEGFC) or its receptor tyrosine kinase (FLT4) have defects in the formation of their lymphatic system, which is important for draining interstitial fluid back into the circulatory system. As a consequence, these patients display severe lymphedema (bottom left). In zebrafish, we have generated mutations in vegfc and flt4, both of which are conserved between zebrafish and humans. Like humans, zebrafish larvae also display lymphedema due to a failure to form a complete lymphatic system (bottom right).
