This really hits close to home. Figueroa derives from the Galician word meaning “fig tree.” I often think of farm workers, but I’ve never considered my connection in this way. The back-breaking work they do for all of us should be known to us all.

As much as radicals get criticized for being "unrealistic," demanding entire demographics facing literal genocide always maintain mild rhetoric and actions is an absolutely delusional level of conformity to expect. I don't think that gets said enough.

I think we may be witnessing the start of a new wave of protests and civil unrest in North Africa. Similar protests are happening in Tunisia, where there too they are expereincing 45+ Celsius heatwaves and power outages. Its a deadly recipe and ppl arent standing for it.

Taco Bell is the CUSTOMER here, just like the rest of us. But now folks are cracking jokes about Taco Bell customers and downplaying the seriousness of the illness and the challenges of removing the parasite from produce on the consumer side. It all feels so familiar… (if you know, you know)
Image from CNN coverage: A white make reporter in glasses stands next to a large screen he is using to display slides and information on the cyclosporiasis outbreak. He has a small smile and his arms are raised to his side playfully.

The slide shown has Taco Bell food in the background and the word “DIARRHEA” is in all caps with yellow font is the only word in the foreground.

A vicious cycle of four steps surrounding a black cat with a thousand-yard stare and a dapper little tie. The four endlessly cycling steps read:

-going forward we're gonna need more of your data to make sure it's you

-ahaha youre not gonna believe this but we had a bit of a data breach

-your data is probably for sale online now

-that means someone could easily impersonate you

When they say "safety," they do not mean your safety. They don't mean the safety of the detainees who are on hunger strike to call attention to the life-threatening conditions in Delaney Hall. They don't mean the safety of the protesters they tear-gas. They only mean the safety of their regime.

I’d like to add something else to this convo: many of people who qualify for permanent residency in the United States would no longer qualify if they went home — because their existing visa is on the basis of refugee status (fear of home) or a job they’d lose. Like it’s absurd at every level.

Springfield, Massachusetts is probably the most mismanaged city I've lived in. Many Rustbelt cities undergo a managed decline. Springfield can't even do that. Think of a failed neolib scheme, I guarantee you this city has tried it. You can still buy votes here. Tommy Tallarico is from here.

If the wealthy can get you thinking about who deserves basic needs and who doesn't, they win. They don't care if you think wealthy people are the ones who don't deserve; establishing that it must be earned is the key. With that done, they can just keep expanding the definition of "undeserving."

You go to your city's historical society. It's a presentation. 90 people are crammed into a postage stamp of a room. Standing in front is a man so old he doesn't know how to use PowerPoint. He uses Windows Explorer instead. He talks for 90 minutes about a place for which there is no evidence online.
