A constitutional amendment we should push for is restricting the pardon power to people outside the federal government. While we're at it, we should also probably create a specific independent agency w/the sole purview of prosecuting crimes committed by federal employees.

I am a death penalty abolitionist in all cases for a functional civil society, but just as with the paradox of tolerance, there may be an argument for execution in cases where the civil society that precludes capital punishment is foundationally threatened by an individual or individuals.

My only quibble with this is that the loss in Vietnam was psychologically damaging to the US but did not cost us much strategically because the premise behind the war was so stupid and wrong. The Iran War, however, is a strategic blunder on a level more akin with the Soviets in Afghanistan.

I was a middle class kid bussed to the post schools in Seattle for my entire education and it made me a better person. We made this same decision for the same reason. Our kid is now a senior at Berkeley and she's a better human for it, too.
