1/ Although levels are still low nationally, flu metrics are ticking up, including emergency department visits. This is especially true in the West. That’s unusual because: 1️⃣ It's early (usually starts in Oct or Nov) 2️⃣ Flu typically starts in the Southeast before spreading across the country

In June 2020 Mariame Kaba told a group I was in that "we have to act with the urgency of now and the patience of a thousand years" and it has lived in my head. While what that looks like is a challenge, I think part of it is to "cultivate qualities that help us to stick around in struggle" as below.

The rally at Davis Center with MFE was so energizing—even in the rain. Some of our smallest schools are the most impactful. And as we were reminded by words on a child’s hand drawn sign: there is nothing wrong with being small.

A thing I learned about Meta when I was trying to understand how their statements relate to their actions a few years ago is that *they just tell absolutely indefensible lies* and journalists almost always let them. They believed no one would ever punish them for it in any way that matters.

1000%. I went to the Animal House college. I was in a gender-inclusive house. I had friends in historically white frats. The "better" ones were gross as hell and misogynistic. The worst ones were abusive, elitist rape-culture networking orgs. Never heard one bad story out of the Black frats.

The underappreciated point here is that taking the messy, contingent nature of scheduling, communication, and navigating social relationships is something that AI people think these tools can do. When in fact it is quite difficult and takes a lot of social skill.

I'm still learning a lot about MN and still largely as broader context for how urban districts are navigating this fiscal and demographic moment. I think the trust piece is so critical and I worry that institutions think that trust is built through big plans vs consistent routine action.

Please help. People's needs always increase this time of year but this year is even greater than usual, and when we run out of tents people are sleeping unsheltered. Finances are tight for everyone but how far are any of us from homelessness?
Weeknight drop-ins have tripled we are tired and out of money. Please donate via the links in our bio so we can continue to support unhoused people. We cannot keep up with the demand caused by current situations in both Minneapolis and St. Paul, we need financial support.$18K would allow us to give out additional $0.10 weekly (tent tarp sleeping bag hygiene kit undies) per week through February. Please help 😢

ICE cannot do what it’s doing without local law enforcement. They need their manpower and infrastructure. That means if you want to stop ICE you are going to have to confront police collaboration and police power. I’m sorry but progressive hopes of avoiding this conflict are a recipe for failure.
