Two ships hit by projectiles in Hormuz Strait, maritime agency says
Two ships hit by projectiles in Hormuz Strait, maritime agency says A tanker and a container ship were hit by projectiles of unknown origin in the Strait of Hormuz, the British maritime agency UKMTO said on Tuesday, as Iran keeps up its blockade of the strategic waterway in place since the start of the Middle East war. An investigation is underway, the agency said, without specifying whether the attacks caused any damage or casualties. Since the beginning of the war, triggered in late February by US and Israeli strikes on Iran, Tehran has claimed control of the strait and regularly targets ships that try to transit it without its permission. Washington, in response, has imposed its own naval blockade on Iranian ports.

OpenAI Newsroom

@OpenAINewsroom
We discovered a sophisticated recording device that was hidden inside one of our offices. We used our models to understand the device and where it had come from, identifying that a specific employee had planted it a few days earlier. We referred the matter to the FBI, and we’re grateful to the agents and prosecutors who moved quickly to make an arrest. The FBI’s investigation is ongoing and we will continue to support their work.

At this time, we have no indications of this individual inappropriately accessing or exfiltrating model weights, source code, or customer data. The employee was terminated.

We take protecting our technology, data, and people seriously, and as a matter of national importance. Our security program is designed to protect against a wide range of threat actors, from insider risks to cybercriminals to nation states, and this case is an example of how AI can help address these sophisticated security threats.

WOW. Kristi Noem and Elon Musk, among others, "chose to turn the power of the federal government against a singular employee with an impeccable record of public service. ... The attacks against Ms. Comans were based entirely on false information" and many officials "knew [they] were untrue."
In conducting this hearing, the Court is not called upon to resolve factual disputes between
the parties. The facts set forth in this Memorandum Opinion and Order were proposed by the
Plaintiff, unobjected to by the Government, and then deemed admitted by the Court. Dkts. 74, 75,
77.2 These facts establish that high-ranking government officials, including then Secretary of DHS
Kristi Noem and Elon Musk, engaged in a coordinated public relations campaign to impugn the
personal and professional integrity of Ms. Comans. For reasons unfathomable to this Court,
officials chose to turn the power of the federal government against a singular employee with an
impeccable record of public service. In short, Ms. Comans was professionally targeted and
personally attacked by government officials for no legitimate reason. The attacks against Ms.
Comans were based entirely on false information, and many government officials knew the
accusations were untrue at the time they were made. With no regard for the truth and with no
consideration for the personal and professional effect on Ms. Comans, government officials
exploited their access to mass media outlets to broadcast false information. These false
statements reached hundreds of millions of people. The purpose of this Order is, to the best of
this Court’s ability, to correct the public record and establish as a matter of law that the
statements made by these officials about Ms. Comans were objectively and demonstrably false.

BREAKING: Trump administration cut down more than 500 trees on Saturday at the East Potomac Golf Course after giving less than a full-day notice, with more tree-cutting planned, so plaintiffs challenging the effort went to court seeking a TRO tonight. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...
EMERGENCY MOTION FOR A TEMPORARY RESTRAINING ORDER OR, ALTERNATIVELY, FOR A 14-DAY STAY UNDER SECTION 705 OF THE
ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURE ACT
Plaintiffs hereby move the Court to enter a 14-day temporary restraining order under Rule
65(b) of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure or, alternatively, for a 14-day stay under 5 U.S.C.
§ 705.
Despite the Court's admonitions not to "get to a point where someone is telling me, from

forward and we can't, you know, stop the trains," Status Conf. Tr. ("Apr. 13 Tr.") at 18:15-19:10,
Apr. 13, 2026, Defendants have begun irreversible damage to East Potomac Golf Course. At
4:55 p.m. on Friday preceding the holiday weekend, Defendants announced their intent to
begin-barely 12 hours later—a massive operation to clear 529 trees at East Potomac Golf
Course. Decl. of Dr. Kevin Griess, Superintendent of National Mall and Memorial Parks,
National Park Service 920, ECF 74-1. Although they initially represented that their work would proceed in stages, Defendants in fact took down 529 trees on Saturday alone and have confirmed
to Plaintiffs that they intend to take down hundreds more.
Defendants' surprise tree-razing operation constitutes classic National Environmental
Policy Act segmentation: undertaking elements of a larger project piecemeal and insisting that they are independent and therefore need not be evaluated in a single NEPA review of the entire
project. Defendants cannot circumvent their NEPA obligations in this manner. Delaware
Riverkeeper Network v. F.E.R.C., 753 F.3d 1304, 1313 (D.C. Cir. 2014).Therefore, and for the reasons explained in the Memorandum accompanying this Motion
and supporting exhibits, the Court should enter a 14-day temporary restraining order under Rule
65(b) of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure or, alternatively, a 14-day stay under 5 U.S.C.
§ 705, enjoining Defendants from any further tree felling at East Potomac Park. In addition, the
Court should order Defendants to provide the Court and Plaintiffs no less than three business days' written advance notice before any irreparable modification to any permanent forms or
features of East Potomac Park.
If the Court believes a hearing would be appropriate, Plaintiffs request a hearing on this
motion at the Court's first availability. At the parties' meet and confer on Sunday afternoon, Defendants represented that the tree-clearing operation would continue this week until
completed. Defendants indicated during the meet and confer that rain foreclosed any work on

condition. Depending on Defendants' plans, then, it is possible that no work will occur on
Monday.

Riyadh airport attack kills one, wounds 11, Saudi aviation authority says Sunday’s strike on King Khalid International Airport left one person dead and wounded 11, Saudi Arabia’s Civil Aviation Authority says. Officials said a projectile hit two passenger terminals and started a fire. Yemen’s Houthis, also known as Ansar Allah, said they carried out both strikes.

“A plasma center next to a Sephora” is some next-level metaphor work. Via @michellegoldberg.bsky.social www.nytimes.com/2026/10/09/o...
Part of that chance derives from Trump's unpopularity and the country's economic misery, which is particularly stark in Texas. Campaigning, Hinojosa talks about how the state has more people without health insurance than any other and one of the nation's highest rates of small-business bankruptcies. She describes blood plasma centers popping up in middle-class areas - she visited one next to a Sephora —as more people seek to sell their plasma to make ends meet. Hinojosa told me about meeting a lobbyist for the plasma center industry who was excited about all the opportunity in the state.
"That's, I think, a shocking example of where we are in Texas in 2026," she said.
