Someone who has been here since he was three years old is an American. I don't give a shit about paperwork. And obviously, no one of any nationality should die this way, but I must point out the absurdity of this fascist blood-and-soil rhetoric that our immigrant neighbors are "unassimiliated."

Concerns over fake phenomena cannot be held in good faith. There's no such thing as "good faith" concern over razorblades in Halloween apples or vaccines causing autism. If you still have 'concerns' about these issues you are uninformed, a bigot or being manipulated. No other option.

Good-faith concern on this issue would be going, "hmm, professional sports leagues should probably have some standards in place to ensure trans competitors aren't getting an unfair advantage," googling for 5 minutes, realizing every sports league already has those standards and dropping it.

To me cutting USAID is like, you put a quarter into a slot every day to keep millions of people alive. You don’t have to do it but it causes you no hardship. Then one day the job falls to people who are overtly white supremacist and they decide to stop doing it. It is most obviously murder

This should be one of the central takeaways from the Biden administration -- the "give hostile areas useful stuff and they will become less hostile" plan had been tried and was an abject political failure. To the extent that discretion is involved, reward your own constituencies instead.

Clarence Thomas's concurring opinion in the trans sports ban case in West Virginia contains some of the ugliest transphobic stuff I have ever seen in a legal opinion. Straight-up gleeful. Vile man. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/25p...
2 WEST VIRGINIA v. B. P. J.
THOMAS, J., concurring
judgment). Because “gender dysphoria” is a mutable men-
tal state that is the object of psychiatric treatment, it does
not resemble the immutable characteristics on the basis of
which our precedents have applied heightened scrutiny—
race, sex, or national origin. Instead, gender dysphoria re-
sembles other characteristics on the basis of which legisla-
tures may classify with a merely rational basis. See, e.g.,
Heller v. Doe, 509 U. S. 312, 321 (1993) (mental illness);
Plyler v. Doe, 457 U. S. 202, 220 (1982) (immigration sta-
tus). Legislatures have many obvious rational bases to
keep men who believe that they are women out of teams
and private spaces reserved for women.
Second, as the Court recognizes, this case concerns “bio-
logical men” and “boys who identify as girls.” Ante, at 10,
27. Men and boys with gender dysphoria are not women or
girls, even if they believe that they are. Sex is an immuta-
ble “biological” characteristic, see ante, at 10; it is binary;
and “man” and “woman,” “boy” and “girl,” are the terms that
correspond to adults and children of each sex. See A. Byrne,
Are Women Adult Human Females? 177 Philosophical
Studies 3783, 3786–3787 (2020). To use language to ob-
scure reality—to show “indifference regarding the truth”—
is to lie to the public and cease to treat our fellow citizens
“as equal[s].” J. Pieper, Abuse of Language—Abuse of
Power 17, 21 (1992).

Congress passed the 15th Amendment in 1869. Congress passed the Voting Rights Act in 1965. Congress amended the VRA in 1982 to say “no, we really mean it” after the Supreme Court limited its scope. John Roberts & co. have gutted all of that and would do so again. They have left us no other choice

5 out of the 6 Supreme Court Justices who gutted the Voting Rights Act were nominated by a president who came into office having lost the popular vote. 70% of Americans support the John Lewis VRA. The Supreme Court is historically unpopular. It is not a democratically legitimate institution.

After 2024, there were 31 House Democrats of color from the ex-confederate states. By 2029, white Republican could reduce that number to just 15-17 www.the-downballot.com/p/with-the-v...
U.S. state map showing states in red where Republicans could eliminate Voting Rights Act-protected congressional districts that are predominantly Black or Latino and currently held by Democrats.

By 2028, Republicans could target VRA seats in:
Alabama: 2
Florida: 1
Georgia: 2
Louisiana: 2
Mississippi: 1
South Carolina: 1
Tennessee: 1
Texas: 2 (Texas Republicans could further weaken another 4 VRA seats held by Democrats that they already targeted in 2026 and 2 seats that Republicans currently hold)
Total: 12

You don't get to repeal civil rights. If you try you repeal yourself. It's up to us to make that a reality for SCOTUS. Declare that all 6 Republican justices are illegitimate and their votes will not be recognized. Demand their resignations, seek their expulsion, appoint 15 more justices.

This is treating Trump v. United States as law. It is not law. It is anti-law. It belongs in that category of Supreme Court decisions which were not merely wrong, they were illegitimate and non-binding from the day they were issued. It is owed no more respect than Lincoln gave Dred Scott.

Here's the definitive answer to the debate over "who started it": Republicans. Before Trump pushed TX to gerrymander last year, the GOP had drawn 42% of all districts, versus just 14% for Dems (the rest were by neutral parties). The maps below from @stephenwolf.bsky.social make this explicit.
