When I say AI coding tools mean execution is essentially “free”, I typically get pushback yet this is reality now. OpenAI’s Codex team plans to ship either a feature or a rewrite a day over the next month. This sort of velocity is impossible without AI. Tech debt is considered a manageable cost.

I recently had an experience where I had an AI agent list all of the issues with a feature and sent it to an engineer, then I got an automated response that their agent had gone through the list and addressed most of the issues. Whether or not you call this vibe coding, this is software dev today.

While social media makes it seem there is uniform disapproval of using AI to write, it’s quite different in the workplace. Depending on where you work, AI writing may be forbidden, required, or encouraged as long as it isn’t obvious AI slop. All my work documents are now AI assisted and it’s great

Trump is replacing a VC as AI czar with the Director of National Intelligence. This is a sign that even the grifter-in-chief realizes his “drill baby drill” approach to AI regulation falls short when one AI company can accidentally hack 100+ organizations because it wasn’t paying attention.

Jev is the most interesting AI launch of the year. It challenges the idea of LLMs as the solution to every AI problem. It doesn’t generate text, instead Jev takes context and returns a choice, score or probability. No hallucinations by definition and it’s cheaper than an LLM. It’s a game changer.

The Department of Homeland Security is celebrating that for the first time in ~50 years, more people left America than moved here. These people are so stupid and so racist they don’t realize they are scoring own goals

I knew Digger was a terrible movie when the first trailer I saw for it was a montage of all of Tom Cruise’s hit movies followed by a quick mention that he was going to be in a new movie called Digger.

Ignoring advice to secure and monitor your sandboxes during testing then blaming it on your AI being so smart that it’s a threat to humanity is nasty work

OpenAI’s former safety leader quit and is blaming the company’s culture for its rash of rogue AI agent incidents. Given OpenAI had to notify 100+ organizations about rogue agent activity on his watch, I imagine blaming the company and not his leadership is the only winning strategy.

There are two counterintuitive data points in the industry about AI usage and spend right now. Token prices and AI spend are dropping given price cuts from frontier labs on their latest models even as usage is increasing. However both Anthropic & OpenAI have recently claimed huge increases in ARR

Some controversial thoughts on AI and layoffs. I believe a high performer using AI can deliver more output at higher quality than a team of average workers. However it’s structurally impossible for companies to both identify these people and eliminate all the other workers who get in their way.

Xbox is not for sale is not the same thing as Xbox isn’t being streamlined ahead of being spun off similar to how Expedia was in 1999. Cutting up to 3,200 jobs, moving Halo development under Activision and spinning off underperforming studios all seem like prep to separate Xbox from Microsoft.

One thing I dislike about the current AI-native focus across tech is how difficult it is to give advice to entry-level PMs. Few companies want to hire you, and those that do increasingly want you to be a meat proxy for AI output instead of a product thinker and execution driver.

Reporter: "What do you say to those who are struggling to afford gas, groceries, diesel?" Trump: “We have the greatest economy in the history of our country.” ~ I guess that’s his way of saying it’s a skill issue. Start your own crypto coin and get that bag.

Enterprise software companies had a short-lived run where they competed on usability and product-led growth which seems to be over. Now every SaaS app seems to be converging on the same UX monstrosity, complete with AI features of dubious value.

Apple is changing macOS permissions because AI agents make broad access more dangerous. This is a mundane security problem with familiar solutions; least privilege, explicit authorization and strong access controls. Don’t give an agent broad access then rely only on “alignment” to make it behave.

I was thinking to myself earlier this week that it's better for the economy and the world to have 1,000 people who can afford a Rolls Royce than one person who can afford 1,000 Rolls Royces. It's weird to see a similar message in a political ad as if I manifested it. I agree with this 100%.

California passed a law regulating the use of AI to fire or discipline employees. Companies can use AI to recommend firing someone, but a human has to review the evidence and remains responsible for the decision. AI can automate the work, but a computer cannot be accountable.

It’s hard to get excited about AI model benchmarks anymore. Claude Opus 5 had high benchmark scores but was unusably bad. Muse is the top app in the App Store even though Muse Spark isn’t the top model on Artificial Analysis. Let’s see how Gemini 4 Argon actually performs in the real world.

Anthropic estimates robots can already perform 75% of physical job tasks. However they are only cheaper or close to the cost of humans in just 0.3% of job tasks. The Jetsons completely misled us. Computers are more likely to replace doctors and lawyers before we get robot maids.
anthropic.com
Can we predict the jobs robots will do?
What work can robots do? Anthropic's robot exposure index finds robots can do 3/4 of US physical job tasks, but are cost-competitive for only 0.3%.

I don’t believe companies expect software development to durably exist as a profession in a decade or two. So this question is like asking who will be the senior milkmen and telephone switchboard operators?

OpenAI disclosed this week that they hit $70B ARR. This is a significant jump in their revenue trend and backs up the anecdotes of more developers and businesses trying Codex & GPT 5.6 Sol after the dual flops that were Opus 5 & Fable. The question is if or how much Anthropic’s revenue has slowed?

Software engineers see AI agents as tools. We have decades of experience restricting tools with least privilege and access controls. AI researchers have a dual hubris, they’re creating a smarter-than-human god that can defeat any sandbox, but believe they can teach it to obey. So far, not great. 🥴

Sounds like after years of thinking different about mass layoffs, Apple is about to join the rest of big tech. Fewer people shipping more often is the Silicon Valley slogan these days. That and being AI native.

A friend of mine has argued that a consequence of AI on tech jobs will be fewer people making more money on average. In big tech, I’m seeing this happen just from companies doing layoffs then preferring senior super ICs over college grads when they do hire.

OpenAI’s seeming lack of focus makes more sense when you realize Sam Altman is a prolific investor with stakes in 400+ companies. OpenAI is run similarly. Make lots of bets, double down on what works and kill what doesn’t. The lack of focus is the strategy, not a bug.

Google has relented and is now willing to pay publishers whose content shows up in AI overviews. The pilot program has 100 publishers which hopefully expands significantly. We need the value exchange between websites and search engines to remain so we still have an open web.

The most interesting part of OpenAI’s Dots is the permission system. - Unattended research is read-only - Users can require approval for actions - A separate system reviews consequential actions - Some things always require a human AI agent safety is increasingly about authorization not alignment.

Spending $850 vibe coding to-do list apps hoping to get rich is just one notch above spending the money on lottery tickets. While execution is now “free” due to vibe coding, it also means every software category will be hyper competitive. Your AI slop app is just more noise to users.

80% of Anthropic’s half trillion in data center commitments is non-cancelable or payable regardless of usage. That’s an incredible bet on the continued dominance of Claude and exponential growth in AI usage.

Jensen Huang: People distill my products every single day. They take it and they strip it down to its raw parts, they test everything. That's called competition.  Interviewer: Do you think that's fair game? You think distillation is not robbery?  Jensen Huang: That's called competition.

I saw some people saying Meta’s Muse leaked someone’s address on Facebook Marketplace. The person worked with the Muse team to debug the issue. It turns out they did give Muse their address and permission to always act on their behalf but the gravity of the decision wasn’t clear enough to them.

I’ve been saying for the past few months that the big problem with AI agents is less hallucinations but more instruction following. You can fact check your way around hallucinations but an AI agent that doesn’t do what you asked or forgets your guardrails is a liability not a tool.

A ban on recursive self-improvement that relies on keeping a human in the loop seems easy to circumvent. Humans can become “meat proxies” who shuffle AI output around or approve changes they don’t understand. If AI does 99% of the work and a human rubberstamps the last 1%, what exactly was banned?
cnbc.com
Khanna to introduce AI safety bill with ban on 'recursive' technology until safeguards exist
The proposal joins a chorus of other measures being put forward in Congress as the body mulls how to regulate AI.
