Reducing road safety to data about victims blinds us from larger systemic causes. This severely limits our thinking about effective solutions. The only way forward begins with knowing WHO KILLS WHO. Look for the #CollissionMatrix.

Lifts need regular maintenance and TLC; if they become non-functional, step-free access is no longer possible. A lift can be a single point of failure. Ramps, by contrast, very rarely fail. #UniversalDesign #Access #PublicTransport

Good luck to any children trying to cycle south through this junction. #VisionZero is just words.
An engineering plan of a complex signalised crossroads with many traffic lanes and multi stage pedestrian crossings.

There is a south bound cycle lane with a give way just after so cyclists have to somehow give way as they enter the centre of the junction.

View from 131 bus in Raynes Park. White van has parked (legally) in the loading bay & northbound lane is too narrow for bus to pull out. It has to wait for lights to change & queueing traffic to clear. Just 1 of 1000s of micro-delays around London adding up to slow&unreliable journeys for bus users.

We know the school run creates traffic. But does every school contribute equally? 🚸 Our year-long experiment suggests not. Read our findings👇 www.wearepossible.org/our-reports/s…
For the last year, we've been running an experiment and now the results are in.

On the streets we studies, rush hour congestion was disproportionately associated with private schoolsWe looked at whether there’s more traffic when schools are in term. The clear answer is yes.We looked at routes that had both private and state schools on them. The data shows that two thirds of school run congestion is linked to private schools on these routes. For full details of the research and our findings head to: wearepossible.org/schoolruncruncher

While many drivers are careful and considerate, I see a huge amount of dangerous and aggressive driving on London's roads - and very little enforcement. Drivers aren't worse than other road users. But motor vehicles do far more damage than other machines when poorly controlled or recklessly driven.

* BREAKING NEWS * Now Tory-run Wandsworth Council cuts funding for bike hangers, the Albert Bridge & Queenstown Road cycle schemes, and ditches support for TfL's (long delayed) Wandsworth gyratory plans. In war-on-drivers news, installs extra cameras and increases car parking charges Links next
table with budget cuts, and text "The Council will keep Wandsworth moving by ensuring the borough’s roads and
transport network work effectively for residents, rather than acting as a barrier. In
light of limited resources, the transport programme has been reviewed to focus
investment on the interventions most closely aligned with these priorities."On active travel, the Council will release uncommitted funding from the quiet cycle
route programme and will not proceed with the Albert Bridge cycling and walking
feasibility study or further works on the Falcon Road corridor. It will complete the
Wandsworth Bridge cycling and walking scheme, widening pavements and adding
Official
cycle tracks while carrying out essential maintenance to extend the life of the bridge
and keep it open to two-way traffic.
Improvements to the Queenstown Road corridor will continue, but with some
elements scaled back. The Council will complete the current programme of
improvements to the riverwalk in Nine Elms, but review plans for further
improvements. The Council will continue to expand the bike hangar programme,
while ensuring that it is aligned with resident demand. Parking charges in the borough have remained unchanged since 2024, which has
reduced the level of resource available for road improvement measures. The Council
will increase parking charges, allocating the additional income to measures which
improve the flow of traffic and contribute to air quality improvements.

(and later in the dcument)

The Council will take a stronger approach to tackling poor driving and parking,
helping to reduce congestion and improve road safety for pedestrians and cyclists.
Official
Following a review of key locations, it will introduce camera-based enforcement at 13
priority sites.

While long-term funding is key to the National Cycle Network's success, £104m over four years is £26m a year... the equivalent of upgrading a single A-road junction. CWIS3, the government's four-year strategy mentioned '7,000 additional or improved [NCN] miles by 2030'...so £14,857 per mile?
