I rarely get the chance to enjoy dedicated head space & drawing time to animate these days but I’m perhaps at my happiest & most contented when I do. So BIG thanks to @andrewsimms.bsky.social for bouncing me into this - it wound up a bit of an epic endeavour (so many letters!😱) but v happy with it!

Everyone is at it: subsidizing demand for fossil fuels instead of funding demand destruction. It doesn’t even take any energy expertise to be able puzzle through why this is a bad idea

My take on the Andy Burnham speech is that my 14yo daughter saw a bit of it on TikTok & then asked to watch the whole thing with me. She told me afterward that the hopefulness of it almost feels miraculous to her because her whole life the people in charge have been purposely making everything worse

Fortunately landlords are likely to exit quite slowly. Even a 20% fall in rent would leave the average mortgaged landlord with profit margins 4.5 x bigger than the average UK business! (see p22 -> www.ucl.ac.uk/bartlett/pub...)

Plant-rich diets are the food system's electrification. Petrol cars only see 18-25% of their fuel energy get to the wheels; EVs 87-91%. Heat pumps are 2 or 3 times more efficient. Food has its own combustion engine: a chicken turns about 13% of its feed calories into food, worse than a petrol car.

The answers were unambiguous: self-centred men who are argumentative, stubborn, disagreeable and unempathetic are much more likely to own a high-status car such as an Audi, BMW or Mercedes.
"These personality traits explain the desire to own high-status products, and the same traits also explain why such people break traffic regulations more frequently than others," says Lönnqvist.

Lowering fuel taxes when supply is tight is stupid policy: it keeps demand and prices artificially high, most of it ends up with those who don't need support, and in the end, it's a money transfer from people who use little or no fuel to people who use a lot, e.g. SUV owners.
