Spending time in the presence of one of Ireland's extremely rare ancient trees, like this hulking oak near Bandon with local man Dan Holland, are for me life highlights. But it's always bittersweet, tempered by the knowledge that such stupendous beings were once commonplace. We have lost SO much.
