Women should be an integral part of any cycling scheme from initial planning through to social safety auditing to delivery. We've had enough of networks which totally ignore us. Like 24% of TfL's network. Nul points. @londoncycling.bsky.social lcc.org.uk/campaigns/fr...

This is why its so important to have safe cycle routes that everyone feels comfortable to use day or night - it shouldnt be a choice between this and a road with dangerous traffic. Safe cycling for all 🙏 please lnkd.in/p/eB84GWNR

Car-free streets aren’t empty streets, they are full of life. People walking, cycling, browsing market stalls, sitting outside cafés, chatting and enjoying being in their city. Remove the cars, and you make space for people. 📍Middelburg, NL.

Years ago, on the other site, I suggested that (lack-of) protection from traffic was a factor in terms of the ratio of women and men cycling. I was accused of painting women as scared, and that fear of traffic violence was not a factor. My credibility was attacked. I still think about that exchange.

Hard for me to say. I know my wife is more fearful of traffic violence than am I, and that perhaps compounds the general fear that women have of violence-from-men that they experience regularly.

A park. A street. A journey home. No woman should have to change her route because she feels unsafe. I’m investing £15.6m to put women and girls at the heart of redesigning public spaces across the capital. London won't look away.
