The explosion of e-bikes, e-trikes and e-scooters is truly revolutionary...The joy and freedom of biking is intoxicating for everyone who has had the opportunity to try out life on two or three wheels with a little e-boost.

So did a lot of other people who, like me, don’t have valid driver’s licenses. In July, the state’s new e-bike law went into effect. Among other regulations

worth tying this into the political economy of the slave south as well. from roughly the 1820s onwards, slavery became enormously lucrative in ways that had never been seen before. slave traders became millionaires. large planters had tremendous purchasing power. just huge amounts of wealth.

Gotta say I think this is a decent move—a lot of the MAHA folks are politically incoherent, and if there’s opportunity to disrupt the pipeline from “I don’t like pesticides” before it reaches vaccine and birth control denial, that seems a worthy effort.

I tried to read it last year and just kept bursting into laughter—never has a book arrived so profoundly past its expiration date, Klein and Thompson were describing a politics that no longer exists.

Mamdani loves city staff. In govt, execs have little control over hiring, firing, bonuses, promotions or demotions. Mamdani knows the trick is tapping govt workers' love of the meaningfulness of their work, inspiring them to their best, and protecting them in tough times

100, I’m old enough to remember Obama getting roughed up over “lipstick on a pig.” It’s not a new playbook and yet media keeps running it because they want Rs to win.

One of my favorite stories was a few activists in Seattle installing bollards on a bike lane. The City removed them, and then within a couple weeks reinstalled their own City-approved bollards because the City Engineer cared. Cities can just do this stuff! It builds trust and good will!

Zuckerberg ruined the mental health of an entire generation of teenage girls and thought, he needs to do the same to teenage boys.
"A screenshot of a news article on a dark background. The top left corner is tagged 'TIMES EXCLUSIVE'. The main headline reads, 'Mark Zuckerberg Directed Meta to Create a Prediction Markets App'. The subheadline below it states, 'The experimental app, internally called “Arena,” would be independent of Facebook and Instagram. It could compete for attention with Polymarket and Kalshi, the biggest prediction markets.' At the bottom, there is a circular play button icon next to the text 'Listen · 6:10 min'."

I think it should be between families and their doctors but surgery itself is exceptionally rare: Out of 121,000 US youth diagnosed with gender dysphoria in a five year period, just 0.6% received surgical care (per a Reuters analysis of EHRs). Just 14% received any medical treatment at all.

One reason I hate death penalty cases is that capital punishment is incredibly stupid and irrational. It's cruel, expensive, and serves no deterrent effect. It's rarely imposed, except against a tiny minority of unlucky defendants—and in those cases, racism almost always plays a role. Just end it.

If AI data centers do indeed get throttled by a popular revolt, it'll be because for 20 years, we: - Let Google steal and monetize IP - Let Facebook break minds and social bonds - Let Uber run roughshod over local and state laws - Let Elon commit fraud over and over again With no consequence.

Simultaneously, they mock & degrade women athletes for not being athletic enough, and then when a few of us are that athletic, they say we must not be real women. The end state of this reasoning is a world where “real” women don’t — and then can’t — play sports. Policing gender hurts women athletes.

From Hunter S. Thompson’s ESPN page 2 column one week after 9/11.
We are At War now, according to President Bush, and I take him at his word. He also says this War might last for "a very long time."
Generals and military scholars will tell you that eight or 10 years is actually not such a long time in the span of human history - which is no doubt true - but history also tells us that 10 years of martial law and a wartime economy are going to feel like a Lifetime to people who are in their twenties today. The poor bastards of what will forever be known as Generation Z are doomed to be the first generation of Americans who will grow up with a lower standard of living than their parents enjoyed.
That is extremely heavy news, and it will take a while for it to sink in. The 22 babies born in New York City while the World Trade Center burned will never know what they missed. The last half of the 20th century will seem like a wild party for rich kids, compared to what's coming now. The party's over, folks.

it’s also all related. the men who traffic children with impunity are the same ones who start wars, bomb schools, support genocide, ignore laws, shirk taxes, beat their wives and children, and steal every dollar they can from the people. it’s all an expression of the same belief: no one else matters

There won't be another movie like Sinners coming from Warners anytime soon and it was brilliant and a hit! People need to understand that part of it. It's not just what they're going to do to your TV. I'm convinced part of the reason they're so hard for WB is they're mad about Cooglers success
