I lived in downtown Brooklyn during that period and it checks. Of course some of the people who have lived there a while make the same NIMBY arguments every time a new housing development was proposed.

My experience from SLC is that all of this housing is "luxury" apartments that are priced outside of the median income for the city.

I made these estimates using Census Bureau Address Count Listing Files, which provide up-to-date info at the block level for housing supply. I estimated neighborhood housing growth clusters by identifying contiguous areas with dense housing growth (adding >= 2000 housing units per square mile).
