The tread (is that just for tires? Oh well, who cares!) on the soles of mine is absolutely smooth and they are completely unwearable and I still cannot bring myself to let them go.

As a copy editor I'm supposed to observe and reflect language changes rather than shove them into the spotlight prematurely, but as a writer I'm quite keen on "themself" as a singular reflexive pronoun and use it every chance I get. #copyediting

Seth Moulton visited a high school yesterday and a student wrote on Reddit about meeting him. Moulton advocated for Flock cameras and told the teenager to look up Ed Markey in the Epstein files.

Queen of Appalachia, by Asterosperma. www.asterosperma.com
A stylized picture of Dolly Parton almost like a tarot card. She sits with crossed legs on a wooden chair wearing an orange dress and cowboy boots surrounded by an ornate frame. Her right arm and hand is raised and her left one rests on her knee. Two small black bear cubs clamber up her legs. She is surrounded by butterflies and flowers. The background is a deep orange color.

She blames trans people for her obsession with trans people, so she wants to punish them. Transphobia/transmisia offers no catharsis, so it only makes things worse for those who have it. Even finding like-minded others lacks comfort. Hateful community offers no way out.

this is where your money goes when you buy harry potter stuff. rowling isn’t shy about it. amnesty wrote an even-handed report that laid out what anti-rights groups do; rowling uses her billions & clout to suppress it. when you give rowling money; she spends it on stealing people’s human rights.
jk rowling quotes an account called trans widows’ voices

rowling says:
Should any of the women's organisations targeted by @AmnestyUK's recent 'anti-rights' blacklist wish to take legal action, applications can be made to the JK Rowling Women's Fund.

trans widows’ voices says:

Whilst I understand the detriment to Beira's Place is real, and focussing on @jk_rowling get clicks it's a shame that mainstream press coverage of the Amnesty debacle is not also focussing on us smaller groups listed who do not have the same power or influence to defend ourselves

My grandmother had a saying: "And Magda Goebbels made a great strudel." For years I didn't understand it, until my mother explained that some glossy magazine once ran a puff piece on Magda Goebbels - Hitler's propaganda queen - complete with her strudel recipe. My grandmother, who despised the Nazis with every ounce of her soul, used it as shorthand for the way media will sanitize evil by focusing on something trivial, domestic, or charming while ignoring the atrocities staring us in the face.

Seth Moulton is scrambling to clean up his private equity investments now that Massachusetts voters know the truth: he's a sitting congressman making millions on private equity investments in weapons manufacturers that are overseen by the very committees he sits on.
Seth Moulton is scrambling to clean up his private equity investments.

September 2025: "I cannot recuse myself from my constitutional duty to vote on matters coming from the house, including those that may impact Divergent Technologies."

June 2026: "Moulton will recuse himself from any congressional votes that could benefit Oura, webAI or Divergent Technologies."

Too little too late when you've already made millions.

“How much is a magical world worth?” A beautiful thread about Cabo Verde, the Peace Corps, and the World Cup:
Jill Tucker
@jilltucker
X.com
If you ever doubt how magical this world is, one day you will decide to go to a World Cup watch party in Oakland that you found online to root for a country where you spent two years trying to coax English out of the mouths of Cape Verdean teenagers. 1/7
11:42 AM • 6/25/26 • 670K ViewsJill Tucker
@jilltucker
X.com
And at the watch party you will ask the organizer if he's from Cape Verde. He will say yes, from Praia. And you'll say oh! I lived there for two years. I was a teacher. And he will ask, "What's your name?" You will tell him and he will say,
"You were my teacher."
CABO VERDE
11:43 AM • 6/25/26 • 92K ViewsJill Tucker @jilltucker • 20h
And across 30+ years and 6,000 miles you will hug a now man who tried to find you and remembered the songs you taught him and his classmates and he will apologize for how badly behaved they all were. And you will laugh and try not to cry and gape in wonder at at this crazy world.

Jill Tucker
@jilltucker
X.com
You will remember how much you love the World Cup. And what the Peace Corps meant to you. What those students, 40 to a class with no glass on the windows, meant to you.
11:43 AM • 6/25/26 • 62K ViewsJill Tucker @jilltucker • 20h
Ivan, the grown man with a touch of grey in his beard, will tell you later he has struggled to describe what it meant to him to meet again - that he shared our photo with classmates.
And when he returns from watching the Cabo Verde game, we will try to find the words together.

Jill Tucker @jilltucker • 20h And then you read that the US
House of Representatives will vote a day before that game on an amendment to eliminate the Peace Corps, which costs 1/6 the price of the Tomahawk missiles the US used in the war on Iran.

Jill Tucker @jilltucker •20h And you wonder: How much is a magical world worth?
