The answer to "what is a woman" when NZ first give it the big one is "someone who you thought wasn't worth equal pay for equal work".

For serious though, once again we see clearly that the right do not have good ideas or good people, just a shitload of money and power, and even with all that, they can't withstand a single whiff of criticism or pushback

I don’t believe AI will kill us all. But I do believe it can make all our lives worse, which has already started to come into effect, and it’s clear that the people behind the technology don’t care at all about the human cost.

I still think about the guy who pointed out that "the underlying purpose of Al is to allow wealth to access skill while removing from the skilled the ability to access wealth." Rarely have seen AI described so succinctly.

MPs are claiming their partners property doesn't count, so can disabled, beneficiaries, students start claiming the same? We seem to have a hard time deciding when an adult is independent too, is it voting age 18? job seeker age 20? As a student 25? Well undergrad, PG can't get allowance. #Nzpol

I think we've probably reached the end of the public's willingness to accept "we have to make things worse for you now to make them better later." It's been like 50 years of that rhetoric and things are demonstrably not better. Time to focus on making things better by just making them better now.

Important for tenants in the Wellington Region to note - landlord shouldnt (can’t?) make you pay the water bill yet (because its not a charge based on usage, its a property thing) www.tiakiwai.co.nz/billing/land...

Landlords and Tenants - Billing - Tiaki Wai
Landlords are responsible for paying water services bills. If the property has a water meter the tenant may be responsible for paying the water usage charges.

Whenever a company announces they're going to start using AI, I notice two things. First, it's never about how it can actually improve the product, just how they can do it more cheaply/with less people. Second, they never announce an intent to pass any of those expected savings on to the consumer.

Bob Dylan, now 85, on being 80 –
“The best thing about being 80 is that you outlive the clocks that have been chasing you. It’s freedom from that lie that anything was ever under control,” Dylan said about turning 80. “You don’t chase the parade anymore. You’re an old king from some vanished country. You’re harder to program.”

On the downside, however, “The old fire in your heart still tells you to do this and that, but your body says we already did it. Also, nothing surprises you. It sounds like a luxury but it’s not, and also you’ve run out of illusions,” Dylan wrote.

However, “The really worst part about being 80 is that you find, at last, you’ve got an understanding of something that might have altered everything in the past, had it come at a time when something could still be altered. When you’re young you think that time moves forward. At 80 you know that it doesn’t, it stands still. We’re the ones that move.”

Bluesky isn't a bubble or an echo chamber, it's a garden. You plant some seeds and pull some weeds, you tend to it with care, and you make it into a space that pleases you when you come to sit in it a while. Other people can plant and tend to their own gardens, if they like. This garden is yours.
A colorful riot of tulips and other flowers.

I guarantee you that the government hasn’t correctly worked out the savings from sacking 10,000 public servants. When I worked at a government department that was closing offices the leadership hadn’t accounted for the cost of redundancies; the savings was quickly eaten up by redundancies.
