"the AI agent can make restaurant reservations" is a really weird use case I always see pop up in writing about the personal assistant programs because this is something already very easily solved by "a website". why does it need to call anyone. all the restaurants are already on the website

This is especially wild for a place that's never open past 5pm. I could understand being annoyed if people were outside making lots of noise late at night, but it's the daytime! You live in a city, you're going to hear other people sometimes!

these are my only feelings about generative "AI." i do not care how much it "works," ever. i'll be over here scraping charcoal and ochre on the cave wall until they kill me

Now I'm picturing Superman trying to hide his irritation when the restaurant only has one sad pasta dish without meat. Lois getting all flustered, like "I'm sorry! Yelp said they were vegetarian friendly!" Clark keeps insisting it's fine, etc

Meanwhile its use is making so many things worse. It's harder to find accurate information. Customer service is more frustrating than ever. It is making our lives and planet worse to enrich a few guys on top. So I don't really care if it's getting better at arithmetic!

We are in a climate crisis and should be doing everything in our power to decarbonize, but instead pretty much every major company has abandoned their climate goals to push this tripe. All for badly written emails, error-riddled summaries, ugly "art", fawning chatbots

I'll admit that I don't keep up with AI progress, and that's because I believe it is unethical to use. Even if genAI was as amazing as proponents say, it wouldn't be worth using this resource-guzzling psychosis-inducing plagiarism machine. It is literally killing people ffs

Also, ambulances should be always be free! So many people delay care or do unsafe things (like drive themselves when they are injured or ill, for example) because ambulance costs are astronomical.

Someone in my family was killed by a drunk driver and I generally consider it an unforgivable offense. But after reading the circumstances, yeah, your client made the best decision they could! What a fucked up world!

A 7 panel comic by the artist. First panel: The artist is running from a distance towards a group of people playing basketball in the park. The artist is holding a pumpkin above their head and screaming "AAAAAAAAA". Second panel: The artist has leapt up and is in position to slam dunk the pumpkin into the basketball hoop. Panel three: the pumpkin splatters violently against the backboard of the basketball hoop, sending orange pumpkin goop everywhere. Panel four: the players stand staring, covered in pumpkin goop and shocked. Panel five: the artist stares at them wide-eyed, also covered in the goop and says "it's October FIRST". Their hand reaches towards their face. Panel six: the artist rips off their own face like a rubber mask to reveal a skeleton beneath. Panel 7: the group of players stand shocked and horrified, watching as the skeleton falls to the ground in a pile of bones, the sound effects says "CLATTER".

I read this book when it came out and HIGHLY recommend if you want to understand what's going on in America right now (along with his other book Culture Warlords). It's a very beautifully written book on a very dark subject. $3 is a steal!

Agreed, as a middle aged bisexual female. My dating experiences got a lot less frustrating when I started filtering for only other bisexual people of any gender (this was on okcupid in the days before The Apps). Now I'm happily married to a fellow bisexual and neither of us is weird about it!

There was a small video store that happened to be next to the only restaurant that would deliver food to our house. You could call and tell them you were ordering food and wanted a movie; the delivery guy would bring both. I am still bitter about the building being torn down for a new development.

It seems like a large part of the medical community - and the general public - wants long covid to be a psychological condition, partially because they don’t like medical conditions they can’t solve, and partially because they’d prefer if they could just blame us for being nuts.
