Hey folks. In total honesty my tour is NOT selling well. I’ve sold 30 tickets in a 400 seater in Birmingham, and not much more elsewhere. If you like musical comedy, if you like standup, then please come see my show! And spread the word! The Rachel Parris Songbook tour starts in Nov! Link in bio! 🎶

Fray Bentoss pies have already been cooked through and the pastry is better thought of as a kind of pasta. So I don't bother heating them at all. I just take off the top and dig in. My record is 17 pies when I had to spend a week in Malta.

Jackie Jackson died two days ago. His death did not get the fanfare that the big celebrities get but I assure you he was no less than any of them: a titan astride the earth. In this thread, a few of the songs he played bass on. You know these songs. You know their bass parts. youtu.be/DKVB_CtU8XQ

Very much enjoying the Swindon Advertiser's live blog this evening, with its plucky, on-the-ground reports from the street where a local man has been charged with assisting Russian intelligence.
7:38 pm 09/09/26
What have his neighbours said?
Our reporter is at the scene of one his addresses in Liden where residents have reacted with shock.
One person told the Adver: "It's surprising."
Another said: "Don't know nothing about that, dunno what to say really."
A third added: "It's unexpected, usually you get police around here for drugs, which is why I keep myself to myself'8:16 pm 09/09/26
One neighbour, a couple doors down from where police were seen, slammed his front door in our reporter's face and repeatedly shouted through an open window to "go report something somewhere else"

The 42nd Traditional Kaga-Yuzen Crafts Exhibition Members’ Exhibition : Visiting Dress ‘Wind Scent’ by Yucho Kubota Artist’s Comment : I attempted to draw a superimposition of one scene A at one time and another scene B at another time.
Set against an understated dusty-greige silk ground (ji-iro), the garment translates the artist’s conceptual thesis—superimposing "scene A at one time and scene B at another time"—into a poetic visual meditation on memory, movement, and atmospheric shift. Rather than depicting a static botanical landscape, Kubota captures the kinetic essence of a spring breeze sweeping through a field of flowers, carrying both immediate sensory impressions and the lingering echoes of moments just past.

Compositionally, Kubota achieves this temporal duality through an ingenious layering of color saturation and line work across the lower skirt (suso-moyō) and upper sleeves. In the foreground, fully realized tulips (chūrippu) and delicate meadow sprays emerge in vivid, naturalistic color, painted with crisp coral-pinks, soft yellows, and lush emerald greens. Directly behind and beside these saturated blooms hover ghost-like, translucent silhouettes of the same flora rendered in delicate off-white and pale grey linework. This subtle "double-exposure" effect creates a remarkable illusion of spatial depth and movement, as if observing physical flowers in the foreground while simultaneously catching their faded visual memory dissolved in the wind—a striking translation of olfactory movement across time.

Technically, the garment highlights the supreme restraint and draftsmanship characteristic of Kaga-Yūzen, the historic dyeing tradition centered in Kanazawa. Unlike Kyoto's Kyō-yūzen, which frequently incorporates lavish gold leaf (kinhaku) or gold embroidery (shishū) to heighten surface texture, classic Kaga-Yūzen relies exclusively on hand-painted dye applications (te-gaki) and delicate shading (bokashi) contained within rice-paste resist outlines (mushinori). Kubota utilizes this pure dye discipline to seamlessly blend realistic botanical observation with modern conceptual abstraction.

‘Say yes and never do it’ Mel Brooks knew how to deal with the studios
You have some wonderful stories of basically getting away with stuff at the studios.

I’d learned one very simple trick: say yes. Simply say yes. Like Joseph E. Levine, on “The Producers,” said, “The curly-haired guy—he’s funny looking. Fire him.” He wanted me to fire Gene Wilder. And I said, “Yes, he’s gone. I’m firing him.” I never did. But he forgot. After the screening of “Blazing Saddles,” the head of Warner Bros. threw me into the manager’s office, gave me a legal pad and a pencil, and gave me maybe twenty notes. He would have changed “Blazing Saddles” from a daring, funny, crazy picture to a stultified, dull, dusty old Western. He said, “No farting.” I said, “It’s out.”That’s probably the most famous scene in the movie, the campfire scene.

I know. He said, “You can’t punch a horse.” I said, “You’ll never see it again.” I kept saying, “You’re absolutely right. It’s out!” Then, when he left, I crumpled up all his notes, and I tossed it in the wastepaper basket. And John Calley, who was running [production at] Warner Bros. at the time, said, “Good filing.” That was the end of it. You say yes, and you never do it.

That’s great advice for life.

It is. Don’t fight them. Don’t waste your time struggling with them and trying to make sense to them. They’ll never understand.
