Blaming like Nader or Stein (who is, it should be clear, a joke) for Dems losing appeals to your average liberal because then the fault exists purely on an individual level rather than systematic. There's no problem with the Dems, or the courts, or democracy. There are only individual sin-eaters

I am not involved with LC beyond that, and nor do I have to dictate the future of liberalism or the left (both my friends, sorry), but I think we’re going to have to support and embrace spaces that work pluralistically and non-dogmatically, and with minimal grievance mongering. LC demonstrates that.

shutting down frat houses won't end rape culture, but it will disorganize a lot of rapists, and i think that's probably worth doing if only to destabilize what is apparently an ecology of organizations that functionally exist to rape women per the whole "purpose of a system is what it does" insight.

why this is notable: the alpr photos show martinez and ruiz in the 30 days *before* the crash in brighton park. during that time, neither was under investigation for a crime, but police were able to retrace their movements anyway in an attempt to fabricate pretense for criminal charges.

Human Rights First’s ICE Flight Monitor, which tracks immigration enforcement flights using publicly available data, documented 104 enforcement flights departing from Richmond International Airport through July 2026. There were 128 such flights in all of 2025. New from @keyrisreports.bsky.social:

ICE is now lying in wait outside convenience stores, or at busy intersections. Agents are arresting people at international airports. Local police and sheriffs, deputized by the federal government, are detaining immigrants during traffic stops. ICE is now detaining more immigrants than ever before.
A chart that shows a timeline of ICE immigration enforcement against different significant events (Los Angeles raids, Minneapolis and Chicago raids), with a line in late March 2026 that says "New enforcement strategy begins" before a peak of over 1,500 daily arrests in July 2026.

Two panel comic. Panel 1: a bat hangs upside-down from a telephone line at sunset. The bat is in front of a billboard advertising the Florida Mega Jackpot, which is valued at $5,318,008 - represented with a digital ticker. Panel 2: the POV flips to the bat’s upside-down perspective, which makes the digital numbers look like they spell “BOOBIES”. The bat appears delighted.

Who will clean any of this up?
At a church service in Chicago they had set up cardboard cutouts in the pews to represent the worshippers who would have attended mass if not for fear of being disappeared. Not far away I saw a laborer’s lunch had been left uneaten and spilled over onto the sidewalk outside of a home he must have just been working on. Laboring on. There’s a dumpster out front and a red white and blue flag themed porta-potty from a company called Patriot Portables. Three ladders still leaning up against the building.

It looks like it would have been a pretty tasty lunch. Even tossed aside like that and wasted now. A smear of orange hot sauce on the cracked styrofoam container. Not yet taken away by the wind. Such a beautiful seeming neighborhood too. I imagine it’s a very nice place to live. They say that Chicago is still surprisingly affordable.

It shows me home listings when I scroll now because I clicked on one or two at some point and so the computer believes that this is an integral datapoint that explains who I am. I just saw one hanging ten off a bluff that has been pummeled by eons of waves and so will not exist for much longer. Neither house nor bluff. Overlooking the water on Cape Cod. You could squeeze a couple of good years out of it still I thought. Until one awful night. I can’t afford it even now despite the implication but it’s a nice little nightmare to have.

I thought of a friend who was recently diagnosed with a terrible albeit not yet terminal disease but maybe that’s a bad analogy. A beach house is worth so much more than a person.

I don’t know how much longer it will sit there. Either the house or the guy’s lunch. Maybe everyone passing by assumes another worker is going to arrive soon to take care of it but it could be he’s already been disappeared himself.

I think part of why it’s becoming more negative is that more people are “drinking at home” rather than “at the party” so to speak: less forming reciprocal relationships than just sort of passively consuming infinite scroll content.

I think it’s very analogous to alcohol in terms of the social aspect: it’s obviously bad for you in many ways, but it also can be geniunely a meaningful social lubricant that expands your life in positive ways in terms of new relationships and experiences you wouldn’t otherwise have.

the single most unifying belief among all political factions in this country that are not actually part of the death cult is that these motherfuckers should be held publicly accountable for what they’ve done. sure would be swell if the people who will need to implement that could get on board.
