this is an insurmountable problem under current leadership.
Wednesday's release also said detective received information during their investigation indicating that "some teachers and school staff may be hesitant to report suspected child abuse or neglect because they fear that reporting may subject them to adverse disciplinary action."

it is a clear moral imperative that at the ACPS Board meeting tomorrow the three remaining members who oversaw the division during the time this abuse occurred must announce they’re scrapping the current ‘investigation’, implementing a truly independent investigation, and then resigning en masse.

I know that the school board effectively kicked Dillenbeck off the board in response to this, but I think we may be at the point where the whole board needs to resign.

and not to overshadow the immediate human tragedy with political concerns, but I will once again note that this kind of deranged and incompetent chaos is how we end up with a TPUSA-backed majority on the board.

it really should not be this difficult to just have a nice, straightforward county public school system run by boring bureaucrats who are able to prevent children from being abused and not wrongly imply at public meetings that a particular teacher is shady, leading to tragedy

a little louder for the cheap seats in the back
One of the biggest myths is that men rape by mistake. Like, "Oh, they need consent training." But research is very clear: Sexual violence is not a mistake. It is an intentionally made decision by people who know they don't have consent. They just don't prioritize consent over things like status, power, domination, and sexual gratification.
For my research, I got a certificate of confidentiality from the National Institutes of Health, so my notes couldn't be subpoenaed. One of the reasons I call them perpetrators in my work is because every single person I interviewed confessed in that context. The first question I would ask them was, "When you received that email from Title IX that you were under investigation, did you know what it was about?" Every perpetrator I interviewed said "yes." If sexual assault were a miscommunication, you would be wondering, What have I possibly done wrong? That is not the way that any of them reacted because they knew.

this is all a joke to them because far-right conservatives think that rape is good, and that high status men should be entitled to rape any women around them who are not also already attached to other high-status men. this is their actual ideology

Just a friendly reminder that plague is prevalent, including in the western United States (see, prairie dogs), with multiple cases annually. It is also highly treatable and, yes, lab acquired infections (incl. fatal cases) have happened over the years, including e.g., UChicago.

We would all have better conversations about Zionism if we viewed it as a nationalism like all others, akin to diaspora Serbian nationalism from Canadian Serbs. Not a civil rights or social justice cause, but also not a way Jewish people are abnormal or ontologically evil.

also, beyond any particular trade, the single biggest driver of how miserable the work is will be the culture of the particular employer you work for. you want a big employer that provides steady work, health insurance, and maybe some paid leave if you’re lucky

unless someone legitimately interested in trades work feels some particular calling (or more realistically, has a personal in to something), I always tell folks to look at electrical/plumbing/HVAC. somewhat easier on your body and better compensated than other options.

not that the people who write these articles give a shit about the difference between types of physical labor, they certainly don’t think that’s for *them* or *their* kids, but masonry will absolutely destroy your body faster than any other trade
