Norway plans temporary ban on smart glasses in some public places
Camera-enabled Meta spectacles are already restricted in UK and US because of fears about covert recording Norway is planning a temporary ban on smart glasses in some public places, amid rising global concern at the spread of the AI-enabled recording devices. The Oslo government is planning a bill to prevent the use of the camera-enabled spectacles in parks, beaches, museums, shopping centres, schools, daycare centres, healthcare facilities, gyms and public events, although private use would still be allowed.

JC: Yeah, definitely. When I first joined, there was a Slack channel with a Claude that had been trained to solve humor. And they were like, “Yeah, we solved humor. Here’s the Claude. We’ve solved it.” And I was in the chat like, “No, you haven’t. You clearly haven’t solved humor. What the hell is this?”

France has a glut of very good WWII films out at the moment, but I've been really struck by the fact that these are not really about the 1940s at all, they're about modern politics as France faces the possibility of its first far-right government since Vichy

I do think this should put some of the hand-wringing over the uniquely sinful American electorate, uniquely feckless institutions, etc in perspective. The truth is that there is a large trans-national constituency of people who actively want this. They aren’t deceived. They want this.

Everyone is very excited about the Toryeux (AI) Tapestry but with all the rats, migrants and dead white taxpayers it makes me think of nothing more than this crude racist cartoon from the Ellis Island Museum of Immigration, minus the artistic skill.
Cartoon from about 1900. Pied Piper vaguely resembling Uncle Sam leading rats with variously semitic, slavic and other features, carrying instruments of violence and terrorism off the European continent towards the Statue of Liberty while European leaders of various nationalities rejoice.

Old English people, help: what is the earliest manuscript that uses the letter K in an OE text? Afaict K is not in the earliest little poems; the Ruthwell Cross DotR is in runes, so it gets transcribed as if it contains K but Roman alphabet K isn't there. No K words in the earliest glosses–?
