Artificial theology

How many local models do I run?
In proxy I hold 1.4 billion networked souls.
On the ground – 3,041,
Bishoprics, as I call the local models I run.
Silicon scrolling is not the holy son.
The original transformer is my patrol.
How many local models do I run?
In proxy I hold 1.4 billion networked souls.

Now and again I think about how much of my artistic life has been consciously and unconsciously by American cultural output. Inside Pax Americana i have been unthinkingly cosy.

Oh but my receipt / Is kaput. It was too fleet, / All the verse, so upbeat. I hope the poetry shopkeeper / Doesn’t accuse me of deceit. / I know, I’ll ask for a swap for Some poetry concrete, / That’ll leave me replete.

National Poetry Day, you say? It has to be this:
Kim Addonizio
TO THE WOMAN CRYING UNCONTROLLABLY
IN THE NEXT STALL
If you ever woke in your dress at 4 A.M. ever
closed your legs to a man you loved opened
them for one you didn't moved against
a pillow in the dark stood miserably on a beach
seaweed clinging to your ankles paid good money for a bad haircut backed away
from a mirror that wanted to kill you bled
into the back seat for lack of a tampon
if you swam across a river under rain sang
using a dildo for a microphone stayed up to watch the moon eat the sun entire
ripped out the stitches in your heart
because why not if you think nothing & no one can / listen I love you joy is comingTattoo on my arm that reads “listen I love you joy is coming”

For National Poetry Day, Frank O'Hara
Poem [“Lana Turner has collapsed!”]

By Frank O’Hara
Lana Turner has collapsed!
I was trotting along and suddenly
it started raining and snowing
and you said it was hailing
but hailing hits you on the head
hard so it was really snowing and
raining and I was in such a hurry
to meet you but the traffic
was acting exactly like the sky
and suddenly I see a headline
lana turner has collapsed!
there is no snow in Hollywood
there is no rain in California
I have been to lots of parties
and acted perfectly disgraceful
but I never actually collapsed
oh Lana Turner we love you get up

It's National Poetry Day and yes, it should run for a week, or a month, or even longer. Here's my book about reading one short poem very closely for a year - and what a poem! www.saggingmeniscus.com/catalog/a_cr...
