Washington Bach Consort's "Chorale Architecture" program with Elijah McCormack as soprano soloist was a lovely way to spend the afternoon and evening. I now plan to show up for whatever McCormack is singing.

The first movie I ever went to in a theater scared me so much it was years before my parents took me back. It was Peter Pan. Not sure if I was scared of the cannon or just scared of the whole movie experience. I was also, of course, terrified of the scary parts of The Wizard of Oz annually on TV.

Dolly and Pippin were very good for the Blessing of the Animals at Ascension Silver Spring. Especially considering it was Pippin's first time! (Dolly is always perfect.) I was proud of Pippin for his polite greeting of our friend Jane's dog Winnie. ⚓️

Old English people, help: what is the earliest manuscript that uses the letter K in an OE text? Afaict K is not in the earliest little poems; the Ruthwell Cross DotR is in runes, so it gets transcribed as if it contains K but Roman alphabet K isn't there. No K words in the earliest glosses–?

My Harold Taylor memory: one of the summers when I dug at Repton with the Biddles, Taylor was onsite, studying St. Wystan's. During the day, he was usually to be found sitting at a school desk, the kind with desk attached to chair on one side, on the pavement outside the church, making notes.

It's the feast of St Michael the Archangel! But did you know it is also the feast of the Blessed Charles de Blois, erstwhile duke of Brittany? Yep, that's because he fought the final(ish) battle of the Breton War of Succession at Auray on 29 September 1364, where he died! And boy was it dramatic
The battle of Auray, 1364. Medieval illustration of two armies clashing with spears. Everyone's dressed in full plate, but on foot, standing on a pile of bleeding corpses. The two leaders wear identical ermine tunics and wave banners. The banner on the right is tipping backwards.
