On the anniversary of her father's murder, Elektra has to decide between honoring her anger or giving in to fate. My 2 color risograph comic is on Kickstarter right now to help fund its printing! I super appreciate anyone who shares, interacts, or backs it 🙏 www.kickstarter.com/projects/ele...
A monochrome page of cool grays showing Elektra under a veil kneeling before an urn flanked by two sphinxes. The urn has a tree painted on it, and under the sphinxes there are two deer looking towards it. Elektra burns incense in a bowl.A warm toned page with the background textured like cold press paper. Clytemnestra and her ladies in waiting emerge from the shadows of the hall to where Elektra waits. The ladies are made of smoke and carry offerings like flowers, a cheat, a vase, and a goat.

Webcomics are the Zines of Comics. Both in the OG "No barriers to entry: just print, copy, and staple"-sense, and the "Has blown up into a thing with professional/high-achieving expectations on it and now people think they have to be making polished/premium work in order for it to count"-sense.

I love how Whisper of the Heart makes ordinary life feel so magical and charming somehow. Maybe its the combination of the themes, music and that lovely classically Ghibli pacing and animation? I watch it whenever I want the mundane to feel beautiful. I want to make something like that one day~

Here's Chapter 2 of Incorrutible. Time for Revolution 🔥 Can you imagine going through your life assuming you would NEVER be allowed to have a say in politics, and then suddenly, at only 30 yrs old, getting the chance for that?? #incorruptiblecomic #robespierre #frenchrevolution #history
The Bourbon flag over shadows a large group of men dressed in black, who march along a road. A narration box describes the scene: "May 4th, 1789. France is in shambles, having been hit with debt and poverty."
In the next panel, a tired and fed up looking King Louis XVI rolls his eyes at the various people in the background, from nobles to working class, all angered, scared or complaining.
"In a country burdened with food shortages, steep price rises, and frequent protests, King Louis XV! faces an impossible task, as he tries to maintain popularity."
The next panel shows the starkly different working class, shouting over to the stubborn looking nobles, who ignore them.
"What changes can he make to relieve the poverty of the common people, whilst also satisfying the nobles, who don;t want to give up their priviledges?"A narration box reads: "The King decides to hold the Estates-General- a meeting of representatives from the three Estates, in which reform will be discussed and voted on. The 'first estate' consists of memebers of the catholic church. The 'second estate' makes up the nobility. The 'third estate' represents the common people- roughly around 98% of France's population." In the background behind the narration box, we can see just how much the third estate gulfs the 2nd and 1st in its amount of people.
3 panels show Ronespierre's role during the lead up to the Estates-General. He hyper fixates over the pamphlet announcing the meeting. He talks to farmers so that he can get on their good side when people vote for a deputy. He stands on a podium and gives a speech. A narration box says:
"The Estates-General will finally give the Third Estate its chance to partake in policy making. The common people vote for deputies, who will speak on their behalf during the event. Everyone is hoping for big changes."
A narration box says: "Maximilien de Robespierre is one such deputy." 3 panels show Robespierre on his journey to Paris. He waves goodbye to be beloved brother, sister and dog. He squishes himself between two taller men in a carriage. The carriage makes its way through a street in Paris.
Robespierre peers meekly out of his carriage window. In the street, two women fight over bread, while an angry man throws his fists at the door of a baker, convinced that they are withholding bread.
The narration continues: "A thirty year old lawyer from Arras, he has no experience in politics. But, he is eager to fight for the interests of his constituency during the Estates-General. Especially for the lower classes, of who hardly make up any of the mostly middle class deputies."
A close up of many feet, covered in black from shoes to stockings, walking a long a street.
Narration says: "They march now in a procession through Versailles."

I bought Speak Up by Rebecca Burgess for kiddo on Monday at @portalbookshop.bsky.social Kiddo finished it tonight and declared it the best book they've ever read ♥️ Brilliant graphic novel about an autistic girl finding herself through music
Speak Up by Rebecca Burgess - the cover has a girl with red hair wearing a green hoodie and blue headphones, at a desk with a book, chewing on a pencil. Above, in pink sparkling clouds, is a girl with the same hoodie, purple hair, blue eye mask, singing into a microphoneThe back of the book featuring the same two girls and the blurb
"For Mia, being herself has always been hard, especially when she's trying to fit into a world that doesn't quite see her true autistic self. But she gets through school armed with her headphones, listening to music to tune out her classmates' bullying.
While Mia wishes she could just speak up, she's been able to say what she feels through singing and songwriting while her best friend, Charlie, helps put together the best beats.
Together they've taken the internet by storm. And little do Mia's classmates know that she's the viral singer Elle-Q! But when the chance to perform live has Charlie excited, Mia isn't so sure. She'll have to decide whether she'll let what other people think get in the way of showing everyone, including the bullies, who she is and what she has to say."

I did my best to compile as many protest safety notes as possible into a one page foldout zine! Coincidentally…it seems the file has breached containment…like it’s available for anyone to print or hand out 👀⚖️ toonyart.com/s/PSZine.pdf
The cover spread from a one page zine printout. The left (back cover) features images of a scale and gavel, with notes on First Amendment and filming rights, and the advice to “shut the fuck up.”

On the right is the cover, a megaphone with the title text “PROTEST SAFELY.” Behind it are faceless protestors. The subtitle notes, “A brief collection of tips from around the internet.”A spread from one page zine printout.
On the left is an illustration of a protestor with the title “What to Wear,” including a helmet, goggles, ear plugs, gloves, a mask, a backpack, and layers/long sleeves/pants. Each have additional notes explaining their use.

On the right is “What to Bring,” featuring illustrations of a backpack, money, water bottles, a mask, a granola bar and bag of trail mix, a first aid kit, folded shirt and pants, and an ID, with “DIY Defense” listed underneath it showing one protestor using a luggage case, one holding a trash can lid, and one using an open umbrella as a shield.A spread from one page zine printout.
On the left is “Protect Your Identity,” advising to cover up identifying features, avoiding photography of protesters, deactivating biometric phone-unlocking tools, and writing emergency contact and counsel numbers on your arm.

On the right is “Be Like Water,” the motto of the 2019 Hong Kong protests, and the text “BEWARE THE BAIT” with images of a palette of bricks and a masked man holding a crowbar toward a protestor with a sign, “Psst, free crowbar?” encouraging the reader not to engage with traps and undercover agents.A spread from one page zine printout featuring the hazards of protest opposition, including tear gas, rubber bullets, and LRAD sound cannons and flash bangs. Caution tape images accompany the text explaining the dangers of each, how to flush out eyes that have been maced/etc, and how to extinguish a gas canister with a traffic cone.

Found a baby songbird? Here's a newly updated chart!
A chart that explains what to do If You Find A Baby Songbird Out Of The Nest. Is it hurt or did a cat get it? (Cat bites & scratches cause deadly infections.) or, Has a person kept it for over a day, given it food or water, or gotten it wet? If yes, Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator
or wildlife care center near you. An online search can help. If no, what does it look like? Eyes not yet open. You have a hatchling. It's very young. Eyes open; feathers few & may be in tube-like sheaths. You have a nestling. Feathered; awkwardly hops or flutters; tail & wings short. You have a fledgling. Many sharp teeth; large claw on second toe. You have a velociraptor. If a hatchling or nestling, can you see the nest? If yes, Return it to its nest. The parents won’t care if they can smell you. If no, Make a nest from a basket & dried grass. Wire it to a tree. (Note: A few species, like Juncos, need a nest on the ground.) If a fledgling, is it in immediate danger? If yes, carefully move it to a safer spot nearby. If no, DO NOT INTERVENE! Though the bird looks awkward, it’s in a natural stage & the parents are still feeding it. If a velociraptor, has it seen you? If yes, back away slowly. Do not show fear. If no, run. Watch for others that may attack from the sides. FYI: Some babies (eg. swifts, most woodpeckers) only sit on the ground if in trouble. When in doubt, keep watch & contact a wildlife rehabilitator if needed!

Excerpt from a Comicsbeat article by E.B. Hutchins about Alex Graham's racist ass comic:

Is there somewhere in this article where I could talk about the very real feeling of jealousy and how it can make even the nicest people into assholes? No, that’s not this article. It’s not this article because we’ve let appealing to white people’s comfort get in the way of progress to the point where our culture, democracy, and future is at stake. Appealing to white people’s comfort is how we got to where BIPOC and LGBT people are being erased from history all together because the dark history of this country makes white people uncomfortable.
