With all the blech that's part of freelancing sometimes, I'm truly lucky that my workflow is my own, my schedule is my own, etc. I get to eschew genAI use and try and be as analog as possible and take care of myself that way. Solidarity to workers whose bosses are drinking that particular koolaid.

Do any of y'all do what I'd guess I'd call "mental sketching"? When I need to learn how to draw something fast, I'll either a) set the object in front of me and imagine the motions of my hands sketching it in my head or b) download as many reference images as possible and do the same thing.

Honestly, this has been one of my greatest joys working on FIVE WISHES for Candlewick. They have been really REALLY patient with how long this book is taking to make. And they paid a pretty penny for it too! Yes, they'd like it eventually, but there's been a clear message: quality before quantity.

It's that time when I have to buy my kid a new winter coat and lament how a winter coat that doesn't cover the thighs is absolutely useless but how that's about 98% of what's out there. I buy the same coat for him every two years, just in several sizes up. I don't know why I even bother looking. 😑

On the surface, the DOJ and Louisiana are adversaries in the abortion pill case before the Fifth Circuit, but they're in agreement on the ultimate goal of extending existing state abortion bans to all 50 states. I.e, the DOJ is supposed to be defending the FDA, but is really on Louisiana's side.

👆This. Back in Texas, a good friend of mine at the time, who was both Pakistani and Muslim, opened my eyes to all the hate crimes perpetuated on her, her friends, and her community during this time: a friend shoved into a trash can, the name-calling, her mosque repeatedly threatened with bombings.

Realized lately that my brain really seems to benefit from a switch between art/writing once every three months: it's long enough to gain max momentum, but go past that, I slow down and start looking for new stimulation. Now wondering how I can work this into my regular comics-making schedule.
