Meet Hickory and Bluebell for International Raccoon Appreciation Day! 🦝🦝 These playful, rescued raccoon siblings are now two years old. You can often spot them climbing stumps and splashing around in their stream in their Forest & Wetlands habitat!

Elk rut is here! Bull elk have put the finishing touches on their impressive antlers, shed their velvet, and are ready for the breeding season. They’ve also separated from their bachelor group, a sure sign that rut is underway!

A large honey bee colony made a temporary home in our Free-Roaming Area. To help relocate the busy pollinators safely, animal care staff reached out to the local Beekeepers Association for assistance. An experienced volunteer helped safely remove the swarm and relocated the bees to a new home. 🐝

The critically endangered American Red Wolf pups met the vet team again for their final official pup exam at our offsite facility. The growing pups weigh 10-13 kg and are very active. The American Red Wolf family will remain behind the scenes at our offsite facility.

The caribou are shedding their antler velvet! 💚 Velvet is a layer that supplies the antlers with nutrients needed to build the bone. When the blood supply is cut off to the antlers (due to hormones), the velvet dries up and sheds. 📹: Keeper Stephanie

Get up close with Tundra, one of our stunning snowy owls, for #OwlAwarenessDay! Male snowy owls are much whiter than females, while females are larger and have distinctive dark spots across most of their feathers. Their snowy white plumage helps them blend seamlessly into their surroundings.

The critically endangered Red Wolf pups are growing up fast! At 3 months old, this playful pack is getting bigger, bolder and more curious every day. Sound on to hear mom and dad's "that's enough" correction vocalizations. It's one of the ways Red Wolf parents communicate.

Meet Syaʔyaʔ (SEE-yut-yuh), our rescued American marten! Once underweight and injured, she’s now thriving thanks to our veterinary and animal care team. Her name means “friend” in Lushootseed, honoring the Coast Salish people who have cared for this land since time immemorial. 📹: Keeper Matt
