I have unaccountably failed to mention that I have some work in the current edition of David Caddy’s poetry anthology, Tears in the Fence. I have also designed its back cover. Here’s a sample of the written work.

Which I can’t resist not posting
A burglar breaks into a house one night. He shuts off his flashlight and creeps into the dark lounge. As he starts packing up the stereo and the TV, he suddenly hears a strange, disembodied voice echo from the darkness:
"Jesus is watching you!"
The burglar freezes, terrified. He turns off his light, holds his breath, and waits. Silence.
Thinking he must be imagining things, he reaches down to start unplugging the video player. Just as he touches the wires, the voice rings out again, clear as a bell:
"Jesus is watching you!"
Panicking, the burglar whips his flashlight around the room until the beam lands on a birdcage in the corner. Inside sits a large parrot.
The burglar lets out a huge sigh of relief. "Was that you?" he whispers angrily to the bird. "Did you say that?"
"Yep," squawks the parrot. "I’m just trying to warn you."
The burglar laughs, completely relaxed now. "Warn me? Of what? And who the hell are you anyway?"
"My name is Moses," says the bird.
The burglar snorts. "Moses? What kind of idiot would name a parrot Moses?"
The parrot replies: "The same kind of idiot who named the Staffy Jesus."

Now that Andy Burnham has reopened the Europe question, free movement will be at the centre of debate. For @arguablymag.bsky.social I argue that it's a big benefit, not a price to be paid for a better trade relationship. www.arguably.uk/p/eu-free-mo...

If you have any Turkish friends who support any of the big four Turkish teams ask them what they think of the Man City situation and see what they say. Could be entertaining given its Turkish football’s business model.

I think the right way to approach this is full hearted support for the principles of union with the various steps along the way a question of convergence and timing.

It’s not my job but if UEFA really wants to look at corruption then it might want to look at how Galatasaray, Trabzonspor, Fenerbahce, Besiktas etc can pay what they are paying for players given their pathetic revenue.

If pollsters want to poll the likelihood of Brits voting to join the EU if it means adopting the Euro then surveys won’t work. One way though it would work is through conjoint analysis assuming you can create realistic alternative scenarios. This would allow you to present the trade-offs and

Most of the early proposals and lae were lifted from In Place of Strife, drafted by that darling of the left, Barbara Castle. If Wilson have had the guts to take on the unions and parts of his cabinet then history may have been different. See also, right to buy. It was originally a Labour idea.

Steven Seggie @stevenhseggie.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
If the UK political elites are serious about wanting to join the EU then they need to convince the EU they want to join. Talking about various opt-outs off the bat is negotiation wise really dumb. You need to show desire first. Second, the belief that voters are paying attention to the technical

As a child I remember being shocked learning the last hanging in the UK was in the 1960s. My parents talked about capital punishment in such an abhorred way I had thought it was abolished during the medieval period! So imagine my absolute horror when I learned about the US.

Most voters don’t know what the opt out was. And in 10 years time it’s a new electorate. I also don’t think that polling on currency is relevant bc the mere polling of it makes it a salient issue when most voters in a digital world don’t give a shit (don’t come back at me with BoE, nobody cares)

I’ve been a media witness to two federal executions. One was Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh. The other, a week later, was a drug kingpin named Juan Raul Garza. My conclusion after watching both men die: The death penalty should not exist. Period. It fixes nothing, and it erodes our souls.
