It’s very simple and it’s been said over and over but I guess it needs saying continuously: if you deem one group too small to have equal rights you are enabling fascism, not fighting it. The people saying Dems are GREAT on trans rights are not paying attention and/or saying stuff like this.
Nichole Hiltz
The Democrats defend the Kennedy Center but not trans people.
A building.

@treewarrior.bsky....
maybe because defending everything about a super small minority of the population is not worth losing to fascists

Great system, no notes www.propublica.org/article/scho...
Voucher programs and the private schools they increasingly fund have proliferated across the country. Yet those schools often reject children with disabilities — the very kids who were used to help sell early voucher programs to lawmakers and the public - for having needs that are too costly, complex or disruptive. That leaves those children with few options beyond the public schools. And as public schools lose enrollment as a result of more and more
voucher use, they lose resources that would benefit children who remain, including those with disabilities.

This issue is another example of: You don’t know as much about schools as you think you do. Notes: banned in public school means nothing re private, and physical discipline in SpEd is, in practice, Mad Max in many places.

Many families with trans kids moved to this part of MA because this seemed like a safer place than FL, etc. Families from all over the country were joining our preschool waitlist as they looked for housing here because we affirm trans kids without question. This bullshit move by BMS is deadly.

People are being disappeared from Massachusetts jails
Katy Naples-Mitchell, program director of the Program in Criminal Justice Policy and Management at Harvard Kennedy School, has reviewed Dankoff’s data and called it “unsurprising.” Naples-Mitchell spends time as a pro bono attorney at South Bay Jail, aka Suffolk House of Correction. She was conducting an unrelated legal visit on a recent Friday when a family walked in to pay bail for a family member, and were given a receipt by the clerk magistrate.“Their loved one never came out. Because instead, ICE had been alerted by the jail that this person was releasable, and so immediately upon the bail having been paid— making the person released from state custody— ICE enacted their federal detainer, and took the person into federal custody,” she said.

The family, she said, told her the woman who was detained had a green card with no active order of removal.

“ICE enacted their federal detainer. Instead — they were disappeared behind the jail,” she said.

i included this in my syllabi this year
anti-AI “credo”

I have a religious exemption from using all generative “A.I.” I am not a member of the Silicon Valley sect. Their beliefs and practices are an affront to my sensibilities. The tech is trained on stolen intellectual property. The output is riddled with mistakes, and it is incapable of comprehending the weight of its errors. It is not even an “it.” But sometimes, it is filtered and massaged by unaccountable human sweatshop workers and bad actors. I am not required to use “A.I.” any more than I am required to join Amway, buy black market rhino horn, or attend the Fyre Festival. As a human, I have a duty and right to limit my carbon and water footprint and protect my fellow human. As a union worker, I have a duty and right to oppose tech that is used to threaten workers or cheapen our product. As a tech consumer, I have a duty and right to oppose scams that lower the quality of our tools. As a scholar, I have a duty and right to oppose anti-intellectualism. As a taxpayer, I have a duty and right to oppose the misallocation of public funds and data. As a grown up, I have a duty and right to protect young people from predators. As a person with a conscience, I am appalled at the decadent disregard for user safety, the callous dismissal of responsibility for lives ruined and slaughtered. My religion is related to my identity, geography, and family, making it an irrelevant accident of birth. What matters is that I was born. I have an exemption from their digital rapture, their cultural austerity, their intellectual poverty. I practice wholesome hedonism and First Do No Harm.

Along w/ this, the “COVID protections” era was about whether disabled people should be allowed to participate in public life & lots of people decided no & threw their masks away, refused to learn, adapt or clean the air, & went anti-vax.
