What are the most accurate prepositions for where you imagine language in relation to yourself? Real question. Made of real words!

My two new favorite ways to read: 1. Upside down (because it feels the way I remember reading felt when I learned as a child) 2. Covering the page with my hands, letting my fingers reveal one word at a time, but only after I've taken a guess as to what the next word might be (best for poems)

Scholars theorizing about LLMs--and specifically about language as an autonomous system--should probably read more poetry and talk to more poets.

I am honestly disturbed by the swiftness with which "trans healthcare not available to anyone under 19" is going from being regarded, rightly, as collaboration with trans genocide and a fascist federal government to "the best we can expect" even among those who damn well know better...

I dread a future in which the frictional relationships between readers, writers, and language are smoothed algorithmically out of existence. It reminds me of Virginia Woolf's strange sensation in the early Nazi attacks on her country. Why would we volunteer that vanishing, that surrender?
It struck me that one
curious feeling is, that the writing 'I', has vanished. No audience. No echo. Thats part of one's death.

Harriet Clark's novel, The Hill, strikes such a perfect balance between leaving open space in which a reader might think/feel, and choosing marks upon which said reader might stand. And it made me laugh aloud!

People / are just too attractive! Heather Christle (@heatherchristle.bsky.social)
PEOPLE ARE A LIVING STRUCTURE
LIKE A CORAL REEF

People love to clean their ears and I love people
very much They are everywhere! Every single
thing I love I love for windows only and if
one window reflects another then friends
for me it’s all over And in the windows are trees
and in the windows are people What are they even doing
with their hunger and in their new shirts They are
taking care of themselves and they are taking each other out
for lunch Oh even the rain has to love them People
are just too attractive! and the rain places itself
on the window in order to be closer to the people
the ones who are eating The ones who are
busting out vigor Oh people You have to love
people They are so much like ourselves

They want to make us criminals for needing to pee. Please understand that this is the tip of an agenda designed to give trans people two choices: house arrest or imprisonment. Either we lock ourselves inside or they lock us up and forcibly detransition and torture us. This is exterminationist.

I get tired of saying it, but I’ll say it again: the nature of oppression in America is that they workshop it first on Black, Latino, Asian & Native people. But it is always, in the end, coming for everyone.

This exactly why I tell people to fight misogyny and child abuse if they want to fight authoritarianism. Those are pillars of fascism that so many people think are “normal” parts of a “democratic” society. News flash: they have no place in a democratic society.

They shoot people, then lie about it, almost as if that's their job.
One afternoon in early October, a 30-year-old teaching assistant named Marimar Martinez was driving around Chicago’s majority-Latino Brighton Park neighborhood warning people that federal immigration agents were coming. U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents were riding in a car behind her. One of them aimed an assault rifle at her and shouted “do something, bitch” before opening fire, video of the incident shows.
Martinez, an American citizen, was hit five times, and miraculously survived. The agents claimed she rammed their car and arrested her. Martinez’s lawyers unearthed video footage contradicting that claim, showing agents ramming her car, and prosecutors dropped the charges. The court case produced text messages from the agent who shot her, bragging about his feat: “I fired 5 rounds and she had 7 holes. Put that in your book boys.”
