But then again, some of the best RPGs out there were made 20+ years ago and similarly held together with duct tape and chewed gum, so if anything it's perfectly in line with those. It's still a very strong recommendation.

After finishing The Necromancer's Tale, I really understand the reviews I glanced at that called it "nearly great". Some very interesting story ideas and RPG puzzling, bogged down by a lot of jank and a combat system I put up with until it became so tedious that I opted to turn it off.
