I saw Chief Mountain on a road trip to Southern Alberta recently and it made me think of The Buffalo Hunter Hunter by @stephengrahamjones.com I absolutely loved it. You should read it! It's so good! I had a really hard time putting it down, can't remember the last time I was so engrossed. 10/10

In the distance above the horizon looms Chief Mountain in Montana. It has a distinct shape reminiscent of a submarine conning tower, with the left side being a sheer cliff and the right side having a gentler but still very steep slope.

Foothills roll below in the far distance, with a blue sky and scattered clouds above. It is quite hazy with wildfire smoke in the distance.

A weathered pole fence runs down the middle of the frame, splitting to either side with a metal gate on the right. In the distance along the fence a Canadian flag flutters in the air.

Grasses and fieldstone rocks cover the ground, with a few orange wildflowers visible in the bottom left of the frame.

There are a few farmhouses and outbuildings on the left, with brown painted metal roofs. On the right is a clump of deciduous trees with green leaves, possibly Aspen trees.

I was on a road trip to Southern Alberta, Canada recently and saw this cool looking rock covered with lichens. Does anyone know what the plant around it is called? It was all over the place and looked very happy. it kinda reminds me of cedar but it felt like some sort of succulent

A photograph of a very weathered and cracked sharp light gray to dark brown rock embedded in the ground.

Dark orange, almost rust-coloured lichens cover some of the rock, with small patches scattered throughout and some larger patches giving it a colourful covering, contrasting with the green foreground.

A green low ground-cover plant is growing on the ground around the rock, and is encroaching on the lower parts with a tendril climbing up into a wide crack toward the right side. This plant is a rich forest green, and has what I would describe as cedar-like leaves. It felt somewhat like a succulent, and covered a very large area in this field.

Small clumps of wild grasses fill the scant space between the ground-cover plant (I do not know what it is called).
