A hoard of over 1900 #Roman silver coins found at Falkirk (Scotland); equivalent to 10+ years pay for an ordinary soldier. The coins range in date from 83BC to AD230, & may have been part of a bribe paid by Rome to a chieftain north of the frontier to secure peace for a while 🏺AncientBlueSky

It is with crushing sadness that I share the news that Dr Kay Hartley, our mortarium extraordinaire, died last week at the age of 94. I visited her the week before she passed, and I will forever cherish the memory of that visit. May she rest in peace and her legacy be continued.
