Every single sentence in this piece denotes a kind of tone-deafness and solipsistic ignorance of the rest of society that only comes to the privileged who can't understand why they are not more privileged than they already are.

WELL NOW, would you look at that? A massive, 4-YEAR-LONG study of NEARLY 30 MILLION people in France found that individuals who received a COVID-19 mRNA vaccine had a 74% LOWER risk of death from severe COVID-19 compared to unvaccinated individuals and ZERO increased risk of all-cause mortality.

These are Moylan’s full comments on floating bus stop bike lanes. This is the sort of transport policy almost every other European nation would find deeply weird.
“People who haven't seen a floating bus stop might think it's got nothing to do with them and they're safe. But I can promise you, the zealots behind these bike schemes are coming for you.
“So you will get a floating bus stop if you don't have a Conservative government, because we are going to put an end to them.
“These are bus stops, basically where the cycle lane sits between the pavement and the boarding area for the bus. So to get to the bus stop when the bus comes, you have to cross over the cycle lane.
“Of course, the cyclists are all meant beautifully to stop for pedestrians across, especially for blind pedestrians who are crossing. They never do. There are horrendous videos of cyclists racing through them. “Now we've announced that we are going to put an end to these. It'll take little time. We'll get rid of the most egregious ones immediately.
“We'll prevent any new ones coming along, and we'll design out the others as they go on, because they are hated by people, especially by the blind, by pedestrians, by elderly, by anyone who just does not want to have to think about a crazed bicycle coming at them at high speed, when all they want to do is get on the bus.”

1) This isn't about generating games or assets with AI, it's just about using automation tools for some processes like bug testing which isn't inherently bad 2) IGN should be embarrassed for this headline. It doesn't say "AI generation" as in generative AI, it's 世代, "generation" as in "time period"

The extent to which the rule "you are not allowed to insult the other side's voters" is applied exclusively to the left never ceases to infuriate me. "Basket of deplorables" and "cling to guns or religion" were WEEKS-long news cycles. There were panels. There was theme music and a logo.

Under the Tories we will lose our human rights and environmental protections. They are promising to deliver a full on race to the absolute bottom. I am not sure this wins back those seats they lost to the LibDems in 2024.

One way to be completely disillusioned with AI is to ask it to analyze your own work. I got morbidly curious and asked it to talk about my band, and it's all irritatingly incorrect. I would suggest this for tech bros, but if they made things, they wouldn't be evangelizing AI.

"So my house will cost 50k less?" Good god no. Our beknighted building company owners will pocket the cash. You will just have a much less safe house
A news graphic with a deep red background and bright white text. The headline reads, “Politics live with Andrew Sparrow Shadow chancellor to address Tory conference as he claims slashing red tape could cut cost of new houses by £50,000 - UK politics live.” Smaller text below says, “Andrew Griffith makes speech today as Reform UK accuses party of copying policies they ‘announced weeks and months ago’.” The bottom text states, “Tories to pledge to scrap Environment Agency and Natural England.” At the bottom, “Andrew Sparrow Live blog notifications off” is written.

Hard to see how, if avoiding extremist parties is a goal, retaining FPTP is the path to that happening. FPTP will see an extremist party hold all the owner (reform, thsi Tory party, trump in US) PR means enough people vote for a loony party but they have a small seat at the table

I know people still think the whole weaponisation of antisemitism against Corbyn was a fraud. There were certainly some very bad people who used it, *but* it was there to be used. It existed. It still does. I still get a lot of replies that use antisemitic tropes to attack Israel.

I lost friends over antisemitism in Labour. I tried to argue that the fact that people on the right were trying to use antisemitism as a weapon against Labour (and they were, in bad faith) did not mean that antisemitism did not exist in Labour (it did). This argument still echoes.

Denis Healey on David Owen
Healey kept a shelf of Spitting Image puppets as latex mementoes of his turbulent political life - among them Margaret Thatcher, Michael Foot, Neil Kinnock and David Owen. As he picked up the Owen puppet and squeezed it to make it squeak, I quoted Owen's view that when Healey stood for the Labour leadership in 1980 he “didn't have the guts to take on the left wing of the party”. “That's absolute bollocks," snorted Healey. “David Owen was a very self-centred person. He was good-looking, he was intelligent, he had immense charm and all these presents were given to him by the good fairy and then the bad fairy came along and tapped him on the shoulder and said, '... but you'll be a shit.”
