The US Democrats need to look at their next Presidency as an endless sprint to obliterate MAGA, every day for years. Until the cancer is gone then there should be no time wasted on MAGA tears or conciliation. Only endless justice and rebuilding the democracy. Govern like every day is the last day.

'it's a tool, you need to learn to use it', ok, but in using it, I see more people who extensively use it spend more time and make worse results than if they didn't, and since it's being called a 'tool', I'll call it a bad tool, and what do you do with a bad tool, you throw it away

Heading into the midterms, here's one of my favorite cross stitch patterns that feels relevant. Patterns are free (tips welcome) and are full stitches and limited palette, so generally good for beginning stitchers or good relaxation for experienced stitchers. ko-fi.com/s/8e5fbf75cc

The first pattern (also available!) is an awkward size for framing, although I like the sort of hand written font. This one tightens everything up so ...

Kenneth Grahame's original titles for The Wind in the Willows were 'The Mole & The Water Rat' or 'Mr Mole & His Mates'. He settled on 'The Wind In The Reeds' (this was the original title of Ch. 7, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn') then he learned Yeats' 1899 collection was 'The Wind Among The Reeds'.

Cross Stitch Alphabet Book Launch
I'm no stranger to disappearing cross stitch alphabets. As time goes on, more and more cross stitch patterns disappear, and it bothers me! Cross stitch samplers are a major part of our history; from missing letters to museum pieces. Now, many of you know me for my collection of free cross stitch alphabets, but what you may not know is that people contact me all the time asking for new fonts, new styles, and access to my pattern backlog.

Do not carry a cold beverage in their presence. Politely decline any drinks or sweetmeats they may offer. Keep a plain iron nail in your left trouser pocket and a sachet or paper twist of coarse salt in your right shoe. Enter and leave your chair moving clockwise. Follow up with a thank-you note.

A mostly invisible force shaping politics in the Trump era—esp since 2025—is his ability to summon threats of violence & death against his opponents to such a degree it's become a material factor in political actors' decision making. I think a good term for this is "stochastic brownshirtism."

For the 1st time, an extrasolar planet has left a radio fingerprint of its own, distinct from its star’s. 🔭 That fingerprint also tells us how strong its magnetic field is.⚛️ The planet is called β Pictoris b.🧪 Illustration Credit: ESO/L. Calçada/N. Risinger (skysurvey.org) #planetsci #astronomy
Artist’s impression (not a photograph) of the young giant planet β Pictoris b. A large, banded gas world fills the foreground, lit in warm orange-reddish and brown, with a bright young star farther back against a starry sky.
Artwork from 2014, made for the first measurement of the planet’s spin, not for the radio detection.

Astrophotographer Adam (AJ) Smadi caught this image a few hours ago from Washington state. A thin crescent Moon, sunlight illuminating the rugged lunar surface. And 2,400 times farther away—and on the other side of the Sun—mighty Jupiter, and its moons Io (left) and Ganymede (right).
A crescent Moon seen during the day, arcing from upper left to lower right of the frame. At lower centre is the full disk of Jupiter; the small dots to its upper left and lower right and Io and Ganymede, respectively.
