De Palma's movie is a masterpiece, and also a truly nasty piece of work. Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie? That was a miracle, and it's not going to happen again. But King's story is supple, and still has things to say, and a number of Flanagan's seemingly big liberties actually derive from the novel.

Okay. I've now watched 2 episodes of Carrie. I don't think Mike Flanagan did himself any favors with the above interview, and I view the project of expanding a familiar story from 98 mins. to 8 hours skeptically. BUT...I think the choices Flanagan made here are intelligent and emotionally effective.

Real talk! This book was inspired by a memory from when I was in first or second grade, taking ballet at a little studio in the town of Matthews, NC. I think we were wrapping up class before a summer break, and I stayed back to show Miss Irene a dance I had "choreographed" myself.
