Went from 28 FPS to a rock solid 60 FPS on Steam Deck just by tweaking my SubViewports #Godot Quick Tip: If your project uses a lot of SubViewports (as I do for signs, labels, letters) and chokes on low end hardware (like Steam Deck), drop this script on them Huge performance boost for a #gamedev

Entrepreneurship is like one of those carnival games where you throw darts or something.

Middle class kids can afford one throw. Most miss. A few hit the target and get a small prize. A very few hit the center bullseye and get a bigger prize. Rags to riches! The American Dream lives on.

Rich kids can afford many throws. If they want to, they can try over and over and over again until they hit something and feel good about themselves. Some keep going until they hit the center bullseye, then they give speeches or write blog posts about "meritocracy" and the salutary effects of hard work.

Poor kids aren't visiting the carnival. They're the ones working it.

If my game gets popular enough that chuds review bomb it for being woke, I'll make it so every character gets a randomly generated pronoun. Not one for each character, one each time they speak. They gonna be so gender fluid their gender changes mid sentence.

repeatedly saying that "ai is a just a tool" perpetuates this incorrect idea that this entire nightmare of two letters can be simplified down into the idea that it's like a power drill compared to a hand drill where that couldn't be further from the truth

LLMs are a technology that predict tokens; they can be used to power tools; they can be hosted on the cloud or they can run on a computer; even LLMs are not "just a tool" — tools are things that people make or fashion or adapt to accomplish specific tasks; AI is not just a tool ffs

Enorme (no esperaba menos).

i've always been 100% in favor of LSPs, Intellisense, etc. Seeing the long term side effects of LLM-based tools for development has forced me to re-evaluate that and question if I should even have autocomplete turned on! Like chewing a coca leaf while someone smokes crack beside you lol.

This sounds like a good way to get every halfway decent programmer to quit and do anything else. I'm sure nothing will go wrong if programming becomes a field done only by those who don't give a shit or hate creativity. Stuff we use will definitely get better.

great article about the playdate community getting absolutely polluted by LLM/genAI users and evangelists it's disheartening knowing how much some prominent members of the community will defend or even use it themselves, completely missing the point of such a scrappy and open indie platform

A fundamental problem with "oh it's useful for coding" is that "generating more software faster" has, if anything, negative marginal utility in itself. The world is not suffering from a software shortage. The world is suffering from a software quality crisis, which LLMs seem more likely to worsen.

I give a shit about *utility*, about the social and economic value of those tools, and the bottom line on that is deep, deep in the red. You don't have to countenance bullshit "expertise" arguments from data center defenders who are, functionally, climate denialists.

Finally, "useful" is a very loaded term that doesn't mean much in the way that the AI boosters use it. I fundamentally do not give a shit about your subjective experience of whether you think the chatbot, which is designed to convince you that it is helpful, is helpful to you.

For another, programmers are extremely poor at evaluating their own productivity, especially in complex projects, especially when factoring long-run code quality and not just "features shipped". This is something that anyone who has worked in software should be very familiar with.

Okay I'll bite From a design standpoint, doors exist to impede player progress and block sightlines. An always-open door is purely cosmetic and therefore doesn't need states to begin with. Therefore it can be assumed that to have relevance, a door's default, or "0" (off) state must be closed.
