Depending on how we define "done," my experience in "real work" is that delegating to agents doesn't actually speed things up much. Sometimes, we even get slower. And even if that weren't the case, I find the whole specs thing incredibly boring. For me, writing code is the way the spec gets built.

i've always been 100% in favor of LSPs, Intellisense, etc. Seeing the long term side effects of LLM-based tools for development has forced me to re-evaluate that and question if I should even have autocomplete turned on! Like chewing a coca leaf while someone smokes crack beside you lol.

A fundamental problem with "oh it's useful for coding" is that "generating more software faster" has, if anything, negative marginal utility in itself. The world is not suffering from a software shortage. The world is suffering from a software quality crisis, which LLMs seem more likely to worsen.

For another, programmers are extremely poor at evaluating their own productivity, especially in complex projects, especially when factoring long-run code quality and not just "features shipped". This is something that anyone who has worked in software should be very familiar with.
