we have got to get better at discerning between true, bad faith and dangerous adversaries vs. folks we need to be in some kind of coalition or solidarity with in order to build power for justice. at the same time we have to stop detonating our organizing groups because our comrades are imperfect

i don't think we reach our goals by tearing down every institution we have and rebuilding them one by one. i don't think we on the left really have the capacity for that. yes, some things have to be destroyed and new things born, of course. but we also have to practice pivoting existing systems

And look, I have just watched in the last few years almost our entire population of *adults* fold to peer pressure on dropping covid precautions against scientific reality. So I am aware what I am talking about is a huge thing, deeply, deeply uncomfortable, and carries serious social consequences.

This means to protect public health and create more access for people whose absence in social life was taken for granted before the pandemic began shouldn’t be ceded for the false and temporary trappings of “normalcy.” It’s ground that should be maintained wherever possible.

Let’s not forget that the precautions we associate with Covid (clean air, PPE like masks) were *lessons* more of us learned in the earlier stages of the pandemic. Lessons that, applied, can protect from many other viral illnesses and create greater access for immunocompromised people.

SO much love for the covid cautious spaces that maintain their shared principles under enormous pressure to capitulate. When organizers commit to accessibility they send the message that the participation of disabled agitators is understood as critical.

the thing that drives me nuts as a normie with an immunosuppressed partner is that no one will speak up for, like, the benefits of "80/20" protection — wearing a mask on the elevator, on the subway, at the grocery store, the places where like 30 minutes a day cuts overall exposure & spread the most…

Watching outdoor seating get permitted away is horrid. Outdoor dining is the only way I can eat at restaurants. I already miss out on so much of Portland's famous food scene. I can not spend money at a restaurant that does not have outdoor seating, so that's a financial blow for businesses.

Pompeii is a UNESCO world heritage site not because it was remarkable in its prime, but because it survived to our era untouched: one moment, preserved for all time. But future generations won't know what OUR world was like unless we do the same. This is why we MUST bury Toronto with a volcano
