It occurred to me last night that another way to express what's wrong with OpenAI just dumping this slop on us is that it's not peer-reviewed. If any reasonable academic did this there would be disciplinary hearings. There's a process and there's a reason for the process!

Hello, @apnews.com. Mifepristone is not “the nation’s main abortion pill.” It only works well in combination with another drug, misoprostol. Misoprostol actually DOES work well on its own. If there’s a “main” abortion pill, it’s that one.

You can now read Carlos Vargas Moreno's story at The Guardian. Carlos was an H-2A worker who experienced a debilitating heat stroke in 2022 after being subjected to unsafe work conditions by his employer, Florida Orange Gold. Two years prior, another Florida Orange Gold worker died of heat stroke.

This reminds me of a recent conversation I had with @alexhanna.bsky.social about AI and workers, in which Hanna noted that bosses tend to think most feminized work can be automated because they imagine the work as reduced to the task itself and forget the necessary relational aspects.

I just think about how I would have never fulfilled my potential or flourished as I have if I'd married young and had babies (which was expected of me...). I also would have been financially dependent without a means of providing for myself of my family. It was vastly better to have a career first.
