👥 Do we back our class — or where we think it stands? In a UK experiment, @ronjasczepanski.bsky.social & Geoffrey Evans find working-class Britons feel closer to an immigration or environment camp — pro or anti — once told their class is the majority there. 🔗 doi.org/10.1080/0140...
Title and abstract page of the article “Perceived class positions and opinion-based polarisation: experimental evidence from the UK” by Ronja Sczepanski and Geoffrey Evans, published online first in West European Politics. The abstract’s two findings sentences are highlighted.
Four-panel plot (Figure 5) of predicted values from linear regression models, with 95% confidence intervals, showing how telling working-class respondents that the working class leans pro- or anti-immigration or pro- or anti-environment shifts their closeness to the corresponding opinion-based groups relative to a control condition.

Call for scholars in political behavior (broadly understood) studying Central & Eastern Europe: workshop hosted by @eui-eu.bsky.social, June 19-20. 2nd edition. Participants from the region can have their travel & accommodation fully covered. Apply by 28/3. More info: www.eui.eu/en/projects/...
The Department of Political and Social Sciences (SPS) at the European University Institute is pleased to announce the second edition of the workshop on political behaviour in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). The workshop understands political behaviour broadly and is open to papers studying public opinion and attitudes, voting, elections, political parties, inter-group relations, and political participation. The goal of this event is to bring together scholars, both from the East and the West, who empirically study political realities in CEE through within-country, between-country, or between-region (e.g., East-West) comparison. Papers investigating general research questions that are not specific to CEE are also very welcome as long as they comprise a significant empirical component from the region (e.g., half of the studied cases are from CEE). The workshop embraces all methodological approaches, but submissions that employ quantitative or mixed methods will be given priority. Each accepted paper will be thoroughly discussed, and the workshop will offer ample opportunities for establishing professional connections and collaborations. @eui-sps.bsky.social‬
