This is a devastating loss. Dr Raúl Pacheco-Vega, a UBC alumnus and former UBC faculty member, was a warm and engaging human being who put great effort into supporting students and other early career researchers develop their scholarship. Such an authentic person. He will be greatly missed.

RESULT: Democrats defend a pivotal House seat in Maine today in a special election. Scott Harriman will join the legislature. Had the GOP flipped the seat, they’d have been very likely to entirely erase Democrats’ narrow majority later this year when another vacancy is filled.

Important to understand this. There's a reasonable chance that your Dem Senator who voted against it and is acting mad now was in on the play. It's the same reason why they scheduled the surrender for AFTER the election this week. They didn't want people pissed at Dems right before an election.
