All politicians are rich compared to most Australians, as is Karvelas. A tiny minority are acting for ordinary people who are having a hard time even surviving in this country and who will be impacted immediately by things like climate change. The rest are cosplaying and think it’s all a game.

Why is it impossible for so many people to just say “yep, you’re right. I made an overly broad statement that could easily have been narrowed by adding a clarifier like “in academic economics” in my post. It’s perfectly reasonable people reacted to the plain ordinary meaning of the words I wrote.”

Why is reducing ideological bias a goal? To what end? Politics is almost always a fight over values, not facts. I don’t care if I am “biased” towards social justice, whatever that means.

Part of why I don't like the AI-or-bust economy is the constant flopsweat of people on the news who say this HAS to work. Quit making everyone so anxious. Goddamn. If this is the next Google then why are you acting like this? I don't remember being told to buy an iPhone at gunpoint.

The two rules of software development: - Up-front thinking is Waterfall; we can only learn by shipping - There's no room on the roadmap for rework, so everything needs to be done right the first time Bosses love AI because they think it can give them up-front certainty on the cheap. But it can't.

The fake double diamond is dead. The real double diamond is immortal.
AI is not a substitute for divergent thinking, and the false certainty it gives will never save you from having to iterate.

If you ask an LLM about the future of AI, you aren’t going to get a reasoned understanding of where we are now, and what trajectory we are on. You are going to get a pastiche of every single science fiction novel or other media that has been stolen and ingested by these models. Stop it.

Your favorite Anthropic so-called "whistleblower" said that the rationalists have "specialized minds" that allow them to see that the end is about to be brought on to us by a magical machine god. Parroting the cult leader (of the rationalists, the R in TESCREAL) who says the same about himself.
His autobiography even opens with a parable: as a small child he threw his favorite squirtgun off a third-floor balcony rather than accept that his mother could lend out what was his, and felt complete when he heard it hit the pavement. He goes on to describes himself as a specialist in the technological transformation of the human species, one of the few people alive with the standing to steer it. He identifies with Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the one person who sees the danger clearly and has to act while everyone else gets on with ordinary life.
