The current Conservative party is simply not intellectually equipped to handle Burnham's way of doing politics. That is the bleak reality of it. They'll assume they can do more damage by boycotting and then branding it a stitch up.

Breaking: the Met Police has submitted charging files to the Crown Prosecution Service resulting from its Grenfell fire investigation. The files cover 54 individuals and 20 companies and cover charges including fraud, misconduct in public office and manslaughter

The logic works out like this: 1) End of triple lock: you might be a couple hundred quid a year worse off. Maybe. 2) National care service: you won't have to sell the house, the car, and go through pretty much all your savings if you need looking after in your old age.

This is quite cool. My university is the first organisation in the world to force Microsoft to allow us to turn off copilot summaries in Word 365, after a backlash against it from staff (including, very vocally, me). That cannot have been easy for our heroic IT people so hats very much off to them!

Dementia and Alzheimer's are absolutely devastating not only to the sufferer but for their friends and loves ones as well. Currently if it happens to your parent or partner you're effectively on your own navigating this terrible and often very expensive landscape of care.

I have said before and will again: any electoral reform commission must NOT rule out a change of system BEFORE the next election if needed. We cannot risk a minority vote handing a huge majority to any party that would take a shredder to democracy itself.

This a must read. As an accountant and auditor, those statements about deliberately mistaking accounts and misleading the auditors and regulators are simply devastating. Hard to see that those statements have not been seen by the auditors and, presumably the FCA. This goes beyond football and sport

Anyone who has waded through the social care system for themselves or a loved one will know how meaningful this speech is. It will be a huge challenge - and undoubtedly not be perfect - but the pay-off could be genuinely lifechanging for so many.

Now we need to see similar energy behind a commitment to get dirty money out of politics, clamp down on donations, greater transparency over lobbying, Lords reform and an end to the revolving door between politics and lobbying. Only then will we have a politics people can truly trust
